LOL.. my editorial on The Patriot Act printed today...and the crucifixon has begun..
I actually had some nice things to say about the Tea party...gee,my neighbors did NOT want to hear that!
(Bear in mind--in RED HELL,working together is the last thing they want to do)

http://www.thedailylight.com/articles/2011/02/11/opinion/doc4d55caf9834d0893101829.txt

The Tea Party has become prevalent in American politics. Recent actions in the House of Representatives have made me rethink some of my pre-conceived notions. One prime example is the bipartisan effort which successfully defeated renewal of the USA Patriot Act in the House.

For those who have forgotten, the USA Patriot Act, initiated on Oct. 24, 2001, is an acronym for “Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001.” It has generated controversy from its initiation. It has indeed created a “Nanny State.”

Some of the more controversial areas:

• Sec. 203(b) and (d): Allows information from criminal probes to be shared with intelligence agencies and other parts of the government. Critics say this has led to massive databases of information on a huge segment of the population (refer to “1984” for details)

• Sec. 206: Allows one wiretap authorization to cover multiple devices. Critics say this allows anonymous surveillance of those who have any contact with “terrorism suspects” – including doctors, attorneys and bankers.

• Sec. 215: Allows easier access to business records in foreign intelligence investigations. This has been expanded to include public library transactions. Librarians and educators across the nation have opposed this since 2001.

• Sec. 213: Allows “sneak and peek” search warrants, which let authorities search a home or business without immediately notifying the target of a probe. This has the potential of unconstitutional probes of innocent citizens (which has happened multiple times).

I hope this bipartisan action is an indicator of things to come. We CAN agree to disagree on some things. This shows we can also agree to AGREE on things, too.

10. Excellent! K and R
So glad you are still writing to your local editor. My local paper once gave me a column, now they won't even print my letters to the editor. They were bought out by a local right wing family. And the opinion page editor exited stage left. I'm just SW of you in Waco. So it's good to know this solid red state, with a few exceptions, still has some blue letter writers.
Keep on keeping on.
