Mitt Romney at CPAC: Obama is European (better than saying he's Kenyan, I guess)

Romney sneaked in a reference to health care in a larger critique of Mr. Obama’s “European-style” rule. But that was it for the speech.

“With our economy in crisis, the president and his fellow liberals turned to Europe for their answers,” Romney said. “Like the Europeans, they grew government, they racked up bigger deficits, they took over health care, they pushed cap and trade, they stalled production of our oil and gas and coal, they fought to impose unions on all America’s workers, and they created over a hundred new agencies and commissions and hundreds of thousands of pages of new regulations.”

“The president went from 'Change you can believe in' to 'Can you believe this change?' ” Romney said of Obama’s recent State of the Union address. “He sounded like he was going to dig up the first lady’s organic garden to put in a Bob’s Big Boy.”

There was also a lot of talk of American exceptionalism and greatness. “I refuse to believe that America is just another place on the map with a flag,” Romney said. “I believe that America is an exceptional nation, of freedom and opportunity and hope. We are an exceptional land.”

For those of us that wish Obama was more "European" we take you attempted insult as a complement. The only question for us is whether he is really just "European-lite" by nature or is a "European" trying to achieve "European" goals but has to do it in a very "non-European" political environment full of people like you, Mitt.

2. Those damn Europeans,
with their free education and child care and mandatory 4-week vacations for everybody and their universal single payer health care! No wonder there are so many desperate refugees from socialist hellholes like Norway and Denmark trying to sneak across our borders! How can they live like that? Poor bastards. Thank God for people like Mittens who will save us from such a horrible fate.

5. Ha ha! I once enraged my RW brother in law talking about those "desperate boat people from Sweden."
He was not amused, but he got my gist...

6. Ugh
I HATE it when right-wingers urinate all over the best things about my country and its neighbours. Most of all, I hate it when our own right-wingers do so; but American Republicans spitting all over us does not appeal.

For that matter, it's not only Europe that has public healthcare and social welfare. What for instance about Canada?
