Ronald Reagan Commemorative Coin Act of 2011
Reagan Coin Bill Introduced
http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis/Article.jsp?ad=article&ArticleId=17732

By Numismatic News
February 10, 2011

Legislation drafted on the occasion of the centennial of the birth of Ronald Reagan Feb. 6 calls for 50,000 $5 gold pieces and 300,000 silver dollars.

A $35 surcharge on the gold coin and a $10 surcharge on the silver dollar are intended to raise funds for U.S. Army emergency relief.

A sellout would raise $1.75 million for the gold coins and $3 million for the silver dollars.

The bill, H.R. 497, was introduced by U.S. Rep. Robert Latta, R-Ohio, on Jan. 26. Latta had previously introduced legislation for a Reagan $50 bill (2009), and $5 gold and silver dollar coins (2010). He is in his third term in Congress and for introduction of the measure persuaded 28 colleagues to join him.

The measure was referred to the House Financial Services Committee where it should wind up before the coinage subcommittee headed up by Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas.

Reagan served as the 40th President of the United States. He died in June 2004 at age 93.

1. Taking money from Rethugs is a good thing...
Letting that asshole represent this country in coinage... far less so.

3. Just like Reagan, the worth is less than you pay for it

Regardless, these emergency relief organizations for the military are shams that benefit the overhead than the actual service members.

5. In order to be a true representation of the man,
the coins should be gold and silver-plated zinc.

The other, a pile of dead bodies symbolizing the devastation that his Presidency wrought on the American working/middle classes, our domestic tranquility and our foreign policy abroad.

that is preferable to having his mug on circulating currency.

17. Next Mt. Rushmore?
They are also trying to put him on Mt. Rushmore. The Reagan Legacy Project has huge corporate sponsors trying to deify Reagan to sainthood.

"The Reagan Legacy Project was formed in 1997 as a project of Americans for Tax Reform, a national taxpayer advocacy organization, itself started in 1986 to promote President Reagan's historic Tax Reform Act of that year.

"The mission of the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project is to honor the legacy of our 40th president, Ronald Reagan. The Reagan Legacy Project aims to fulfill its mission by naming significant public landmarks after President Reagan in the 50 states and over 3,000 counties of the United States, as well as in formerly communist countries across the world.

"On February 6, 1998, the Reagan Legacy Project succeeded in its first mission: to rename Washington's National Airport to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. This event was particularly significant as it occurred on Ronald Reagan's 87th birthday.

"Several months later, the Reagan Legacy Project was instrumental in enacting legislation in Florida to rename the state's turnpike to the Ronald Reagan Turnpike.

"Since those early successes, the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project has been involved in a number of naming projects across the country and overseas.

"The Ronald Reagan Legacy Project works with elected officials, including members of Congress, governors, mayors, state legislators and city council members, as well as the general public, in an effort to identify and further the naming of more landmarks in honor of President Reagan."

20. They give up on the dime?
For years, I understood the 'right' wanted to introduce a Ronnie-Boy dime to retire that socialist pinko Roosevelt's image, totally oblivious to the fact they were also damning the 'March of Dimes' at the same time.

I think that it would be dandy to sell millions of them to the sucker Republicans. The reverse side should depict the Iran-Contra scandal.

24. They'll be sold out in minutes.
Not because of Raygun's face but because his policies helped create an economy where people buy gold and silver coins in anticipation of trying to survive after the repukes have chewed us up and spit us out.

Yet another gift to thank him for.
