Of course I know Raygun wasn't totally responsible for breaking apart the USSR, but the right wing is totally determined to remember him that way.

The neocons may think the only way to democratize a country in through bombs and guns (and plenty of contracts and wealth for their friends, wink-wink), but the non-violent democratizing of the middle east is sure to cost less, in bodies and money and taxes, and I think, in the long run, will provide more security for our country. Something the neocons, bush or Reagan couldn't or wouldn't do or even admit. They do love their installed dictators.

I do think Obama should be remembered for this, just like Reagan is. IMHO only.

5. I don't think he'll *deserve* to be, but I can certainly see it happening
At least in the American view of history in the region.

Of course the Egyptians did as close to all of the heavy lifting as makes no difference, but a lot of peoples' views of history do tend to credit events to whichever American president was in office at the time, as with the "Reagan and Bush Sr. brought down the USSR" meme. I also wouldn't be surprised if, a few decades down the road, the right credits Mubarak's fall to Bush, citing a delayed response to the invasion of Iraq or something about as inane.

The ways people decide what 'really' happened in the past can be interesting. They can also be irritating. :P

4. By the scant replies
It would appear that somehow America outsourced something else....HOPE.

And for that, I like to think that President Obama did not lose Egypt. He just earned his Nobel Peace Prize.

You have to understand one thing about the Neocons, the republicans, and America, as a whole. They make ALLOT of money supporting dictators. It is profitable for them, and by extension - America.
The face of the middle east is not america friendly. For decades - even longer - they have had to deal with foreign powers and intervention, intrusion at every turn - and this has not led to prosperity or peace.

Will they trully be able to grasp the freedom they long for? Mubarek may be gone - but now the hard work begins in earnest. I am glad that it is Obama at the helm and have not exhausted my hope for the whole peoples of the middle east, that they find the way to live in peace, in mutual benefit of each others labours.

6. This had nothing to do with Obama or any other U.S. President
The people of Egypt did this, full stop. It is not about the U.S. in any respect. Let it go, and give the people of Egypt their due.

If everything works out, he's going to be the last emperor, err, I mean President, of the USA.
