Thank you, Jimmy Carter.

The peace accord between Egypt and Israel resulted in close cooperation between Egypt and US military.

After all, it was the Egyptian Army that sealed the deal.

Unlike Iran, where the US has no influence, the Iranian military crushed the protesters.

4. The only thing that Saint Ronnie
could do was state "tear down that wall" when it was probably clear the USSR was about to fail.

6. Glenn Beck would probably say it was William McKinley
After all, he was the last president before all those "progressives" started our march towards communist tyranny.

8. Who is in charge now?
The Egyptian military.

The US told the Egyptian military in no uncertain terms to not fire on people.

The Iranians and the Egyptians have been fucked over for 30+ years - but only one had a good outcome.

Because of the Egyptian military.

3. UH..."The Egyptian U.S. Army"?
Was that a Freudian slip, or is it the name of some military force the rest of us hadn't heard about yet?

9. Umm the peace accord didn't cause the cooperation between the US and Egyptian military
The Egyptian military was tired of US weapons (in the hands of Israel) kicking the shit out of their Soviet weapons.

They simply aligned to the superior weapons provider.

14. Good grief. The army did fire on people and killed some.
They also illegally detained people and tortured them. Are you going to blame Jimmy Carter for that?

The Egyptian army has no intention of giving up their billion dollar a year paycheck. Maybe you should be thanking the Treasury.

16. I was talking about influence.
Without the influence, there would have been no resolution. I listened to Bob Gates talking about the restraint of the military during this process as the US had asked. Also it, was quite clear that the Egyptian people and the Army were on the same side. And it was Mubarak's thugs that fired on the people.

"Egypt's armed forces, among the largest in the region, include the army, air defense, air force, and navy. The armed forces inventory includes equipment from the United States, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, the former Soviet Union, and China. Equipment from the former Soviet Union is being progressively replaced by more modern American, French, and British equipment, a significant portion of which is built under license in Egypt. To bolster stability and moderation in the region, Egypt has provided military assistance and training to a number of African and Arab states. Egypt remains a strong military and strategic partner of the United States."

The partnership had its origins with Carter. Please do not counter with false equivalencies.

21. It's not as if career Bush fixer and torture denier,Bob Gates
would ever take credit for someone else's work, is it?

And what you are calling a "partnership" is our funding the Egyptian MIC which has prevented democracy in Egypt for the last thirty years. That they see the writing on the wall has nothing to do with Jimmy Carter.
