Weird how the RW talk show crowd is trying to spin what's happening in Egypt
Edited on Fri Feb-11-11 11:43 AM by oberliner
You'd think with W's whole "freedom is on the march" shtick that the gang would be rallying behind the Egyptian people.

Yet, for some reason, they are taking the anti-freedom/pro-friendly-dictatorship approach, with a sprinkling of "everything is Obama's fault" thrown in for good measure.

How can they defend the Iraq war as being one of liberating the people of Iraq from a tyrant and bringing democracy to the region while at the same time suggesting that democracy in Egypt is altogether a bad thing?

3. I don't know how they do it
Surely knowing the truth and speaking an alternate reality has got to cross the wires in the brain!

I think they can't stand the fact that a DEMOCRACY won PEACEFULLY through Hope and Change. How in the world do they spin such a happy occasion?

It boggles the mind.

4. because they don't really care about democracy or people in general
they support raw power wielded with brutality.

their supporters who are not part of the power elite are idiots who support their own and others' repression.

5. The answer is simple: The RW doesn't like what happened in Egypt because
Edited on Fri Feb-11-11 11:50 AM by The Velveteen Ocelot
we (The US) didn't control it. The democracy that appears to be happening there was entirely the creation of the people. They unseated their dictator. Iraq was different: The US invaded, deposed the dictator, and took over. The plan (which ultimately didn't pan out quite the way the neocons wanted) was to install a US-friendly government that would allow US corporations, especially oil companies, to come in and "manage" the assets of Iraq. But the Egyptians are doing their own thing, and while it's possible the new government will be a "friendly" one, the US is not in control and nobody is going to make any money.

I hear the same guy criticize Obama for doing too much and then a second later criticize him for doing too little.

10. Boss Limbaugh hasn't told them how to think yet
The poor dears are simply confused. Having to observe, interpret and opine just isn't something they do. These rugged individualists and independent thinkers much prefer to be told what to say, and then say it. Over and over.

14. Egypt is a neocon/chickenhawk nightmare.
Democracy in the Middle East? If that happens successfully there plans of a constant source of strife and ever-growing military budgets comes crashing down.

Don't forget that the US had a hand in propping up Mubarek. Don't forget that the US helped Britain topple Iran's burgeoning democracy and installed the Shah of Iran whose repressive regime was directly responsible for the rise of the Islamic Revolution and its subsequent theocracy.
