Old Customer of mine, walking in the second before Mubarek steps down, which is loudly happening on my TV. He is a very right wing "conservative" with whom I had many an argument during the Bush years. Knockdown, that kind.
He: "OK, I hesitate to ask but what do you think of the situation in Egypt"
Me: "I hesitate too, because we have not had a good fight lately, I think that what we are watching is the real way to bring about Democracy, not by invading a country and pretending to bring them bomb presents and killing them."
He: "You got me there, I think this is right, but I am scared, the Muslims are just bad people".
Me: "What you are allowing to happen by your buddies Beck, Limbaugh and the lying Fox Network is to let yourself get scared shitless"
He: "I'm not scared for me, I'm scared for them."
Me: "Don't give me that. Look at the screen and see that they don't need that. They are taking care of themselves"
He: "What worries me most about our own country is the deadbeats"
Me: "That's just some more of your buddies talking through you. Listen to me, because I won't say it again: A society needs to tax its people properly. They need to tax all of them, including the rich. They need to use that money well and use if for the people. They need to educate them, train them for useful work, feed them if necessary, give them trains and roads and art. If you behave properly and look ahead for your family and act in a way that you can be proud of yourself, then the deadbeats will come right along and do better. Don't worry about them or the Muslims. Worry about the example you set. We need to spend the money we take in wisely. We need to not wage unnecessary wars with it. Don't think just because I got my Democrat in office that I'm happy with all that he does. But I will vote for him again, without a doubt, because I will never vote for any of the scum sucking Republicans that lie to you about everything, who advance the rich and leave the people in the dust, call a working society socialism and make you that scared.
Now you have the floor and I shut up."
He, I swear it, was standing there stunned. He stepped up and gave me a big hug and said:
" I like coming here. You make me think. I wish my arguments with my wife could end with everybody smiling."
