Clarence Thomas, the 62-year-old U.S. Supreme Court associate justice with Nebraska ties, has had a quiet stay in Omaha this week.

Officials with knowledge of his activities confirmed that Thomas has been in the city since early in the week, meeting with students and professors at the Creighton University School of Law.

Thomas' handlers worked to ensure that his visit remained secretive.

His schedule was kept under wraps, and Thomas has made no public appearances. Law school officials declined to comment on the visit.

Thomas spoke Feb. 4 at Ave Maria University in Naples, Fla., under similar circumstances. His appearance there was closed to the public, except for students, staff and faculty members.
