Fox News anchor Laurie Dhue reveals her secret 15-year battle with alcohol
She has always been the epitome of elegance and professionalism, a popular news anchor for Fox News, MSNBC and CNN.

But behind it all Laurie Dhue hid a dark secret, one that consumed her life for almost 15 years and one which, she said, turned her into a woman she did not recognise.

The TV personality has opened up about her battle with alcoholism after she said she was sick of suffering in silence.

Though she did not reveal the secret herself she said that now the 'genie is out of the bottle' she wants to help other people.

The 42-year-old spoke to the Today show about her struggle, revealing that she was sick of suffering when she decided to quit and get help four years ago.

She said: 'I hid my alcoholism for many, many years. I was probably a high-functioning alcoholic, as so many people are.

'But there were cracks, certainly, and there were definitely times when people asked me what was wrong, and I just - I didn't even know, myself.

'I would drag myself into work deeply hung over. I thought I had to drink myself into oblivion several times a week.

'I suffered in silence. I lived in constant fear. On the inside, I was dying.'

because I have seen so many lives and health destroyed by it.

Hence, I rarely drink.

22. Since you are having difficulty understanding this, let me see if I can help.
You have already admitted that alcoholism is not only a disease, but a "fucking disease" (although it is not a sexually transmitted disease).

Now here is the statement in question:
So she works at Fox to show her where drunks wind up?

Now what if she had been mentally ill, a schizophrenic for example, and mental illness is also a disease. Now what if the statement was: "So she works at Fox to show her where nutjobs wind up?"

Now since both alcoholism and mental illness are diseases, then "drunks" and "nutjobs" are equally offensive and insensitive and we should expect better of DUers since it is a safe bet that we have DUers who are not only recovering alcoholics or have had alcoholism ravage their families, but also those among us here who battle mental illness.

So give it a rest with calling those who admit to being alcoholics, "drunks". Having to demonize those with whom we disagree is what Republicans and freepers do, alcoholism can strike anywhere and is in no way exclusive to FOX.

16. K&R. Interesting article, tough subject.
Good for her, stepping up to the plate, admitting she has a problem, getting help and getting the poison out by talking about it. I'm in recovery, myself, went to a women's AA meeting just tonight, have been going for a little over two years. Thanks for posting this, CatWoman... I'm sure I'm not the only one who can identify. :pals:

Edited on Fri Feb-11-11 04:00 AM by RandomThoughts
Best of wishes on her helping people with similar issues, and those that have problems with drinking.

Personally I been working really hard on my problem of not having alcohol, and how that is so disastrous of a problem for so many people.

Really should have beer and travel money to cure that problem and get on with a healthy balanced life, with drink and many other experiences.

I know I will win my battle against tea-toting sobriety, since it is such a bad concept for me. I hope the same success in her struggles.
