The Woman behind 'Craigslist Congressman' Chris Lee's Downfall speaks
Edited on Thu Feb-10-11 01:14 PM by HipChick
This is why I hate dating online in DC..running into creepy congressman..at least he's open to inter-racial relationship..

http://theloop21.com/politics/the-craigslist-congressman-chris-lee-gawker

In the midst of an embarrassing scandal broken by the gossip and media blog Gawker, Rep. Christopher Lee (R-NY) resigned from his seat in shame. In less than three hours from when the story broke on Wednesday he was suddenly in retreat. Denials of a computer hack turned into needing to spend time with the wife. But who was the woman at the center of the drama? And how did it all really go down?

"Dating in D.C. sucks," she said as we chatted by phone late Wednesday night, mere hours after Lee's resignation. "You know the women outnumber the men and therefore the men have their way. It's like easy pickings for the men. They have so many options. They have people in Maryland. They have women in D.C. They have women in Virginia. They have women on the Internet. Therefore, living in D.C., everything is at your disposal. A lot of women take people’s word as bond. They don’t investigate."

Anonymous D.C. dater agreed to talk to me, as long as she stayed anonymous. We'd met before through a mutual friend. She's a professional, single and successful, 34-year-old African American woman, dating and socializing in "the diamond district." Her weekends are spent sharing cocktails in posh spots and chatting about the latest news and gossip with friends. Having lived in the area for eight years now, she's a regular scenester in D.C. nightspots and didn't feel like getting her name dragged into the fray. After all, the leggy-glamazon works in government. No need to potentially freak out her employers.

But truth is, she didn't know he was a congressman. After all, it had started out as a joke. She'd done the online dating scene. She'd done D.C.'s dating scene (which she described as abysmal) and lamented how so many men lied. About their height. About their jobs. About their age.

And about their marital status.

It seems Rep. Christopher Lee of New York had pulled three-out-of-four on her. At least his height seemed to match the media reports.

Here's what she had to say:

TheLoop21: How did this first come about?

Anonymous: I was bored one day. And I posted a tongue-in-cheek post on Craigslist basically trying to see what was out there, as far as you know, in men. I was not looking for a hook up and I thought it would be fun to see what type of men would send me their photos.

TheLoop21: Do you date online or post ads like this often?

Anonymous: I have dated online. And I do use Craigslist to promote my design work on the side and look for design clients. A few weeks back, I was looking at the photos that some of the men were posting on their personals there and they were fairly unattractive men.
....

TheLoop21: When did you start to get suspicious?

Anonymous: I didn’t suspect anything was up. I’m inquisitive. I figured I’d snoop to see if he had a Facebook page. I didn’t expect to see anyting out of the normal. So I copied and pasted his email in Facebook and came across his page. Then I saw that his employer was listed as the United States Congress. He said he was a lobbyist. That’s when I Googled his name.

TheLoop21: What were you thinking as you realized he was in Congress?

Anonymous: First reaction was holy sh*t. Second was, he’s probably done this before. Third was, he’s married. Fourth was, oh my God he's 46-years-old.

TheLoop21: Did you tell anyone?

Anonymous: Yes. I told . She was like holy sh*t. Then we investigated further, found his personal Facebook page and we were able to confirm through his friends list that he was the real deal.

Anonymous: My friend said I should give it to Gawker, but I did not want to be exposed. I wanted to remain anonymous, but she assured me Gawker would keep me anonymous.

1. What's wrong with being 46 years old?
Yes - he's scum. He lied. His wife should slap him with divorce papers so hard that he spins and he's a hypocrite.

I can full understand all the other reasons the woman says she turned him in - but being 46 is not in the same category as cheating, and voting for wars.

2. He claimed to be 39.

That same day, she allegedly received a response from a person who said his name was Christopher Lee, describing himself as a 39-year-old lobbyist, "a very fit fun classy guy. Live in Cap Hill area. 6ft 190lbs blond/blue."

17. Yeah... but I consider that a minor infraction in the world
of online dating, I guess.

It just wouldn't have been something I would have complained about. The married part... HELL YEAH! The lying about the job/position... HELL YEAH. The age, meh... not so much.

19. It's relative.
She was led to believe that he was only five years older; turned out to be twelve.

I think that one doesn't have to be a very good liar to be a Congressional Republican--just an instinctive one.

6. Good question--for a mere hetero, age of consent scandal, this doesn't really seem
like "more time with the family" material.

There has to be something more to it, IMHO.

8. i think it was that embarrassing topless pic
and he is new to congress so it's not like he built up some reputation and support in other areas that can be useful during times like this.

10. Given that, you'd at least want to finish your term, no?
His embarrassment is far deeper than cheating.

11. I also note the woman's comment
"He's probably done this before." The race angle is bad enough for a Republican, but my own sneaking suspicion (based on absolutely nothing except the experience of having trod this old Earth for more than five decades) is that this isn't Mr. Lee's first rodeo. Better for him and any hope of salvaging his marriage if he skedaddles out of the public eye right now. We'll see if his resignation brings an end to the story, or if someone with a nose for news digs a little deeper.

13. i'm sure he has cheated before and his wife knew about those times
maybe she thought he wouldn't anymnore and when this happened she wanted him to resign so he can't be away and have more chances to cheat. they have a baby making it harder for her to watch him.

i can't see the party pressuring him to resign just over cheating since it's so common. that's why i think it was his wife that probably wanted him to.

18. IMHO the wife should kick him to the curb.
I wouldn't put up with it one time, but I can see where people may not want to throw the baby out with the bathwater, so to speak, but if he's done this many times before, he needs to go. That's no role model for young children - and certainly makes their primary caregiver - their mother - hurt and they can see it. Children are far more perceptive that we think.

Given that he resigned in just 3 hours, I'd say the lady is correct.
