Ultrasound mandate bill moves forward

Women seeking abortions would be required to first undergo an ultrasound under a bill approved by the House Judiciary Committee Friday on a party-line vote.

The Republican majority endorsed House Bill 280, by Rep. Pat Ingraham, R-Thompson Falls. The measure now goes to the House floor for debate.

All 14 Republicans backed the bill, while all six Democrats opposed it, following a discussion that became emotional at times.

Republicans said the ultrasound would help pregnant women make a more informed choice, while Democrats called it an unconstitutional invasion of women’s right to privacy.

6. Any democrat that affirms this bill needs to be outsted
