Corpus Christi, Texas resident warms up a shivering pelican that landed on his porch - pic

In this photo provided Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, longtime Corpus Christi, Texas resident Gary Gorton warms up a brown pelican using a hair dryer at his home. Gorton told the TPWD officials he contacted to help with the pelican that the bird landed on his porch and was shivering due to the cold weather. Gorton told TPWD biologist Alex Nunez that he used the hair dryer for nearly two hours keeping the pelican warm. When TPWD officials showed up to capture the pelican, it flew off. Temperatures in the Gulf coastal city are below freezing today with snow in the 24-hour forecast.

1. I think the pelican liked it!
What a good thing for him to do.

He saved the pelican's life...

4. The fact that the noise didn't scare the bird off
was proof of how cold the poor thing was.

Here, they've been struggling to keep the zoo animals warm with low gas pressure and disrupted supply.

This weather sucks. Damn climate change and the coal plants it rode in on.

5. Actually, they're pretty used to noise locally. They hang around fishermen with
running engines in their boats and trucks. I was out taking some photos a couple of weeks back, and I had a 'friend' that followed me around for about 90 minutes, at times sitting not more than 3 feet from me.

15. Did you hear about the folks at Red Dot saving the turtles?
The owners/employees pulled 25 cold-stunned sea turtles out of the Laguna Madre and brought them inside the bait shop. They had CCPD open the JFK causeway so 3 vehicles from the National Seashore could get the turtles to Tony Amos and his group.
