I heard this live. Media Matters clip is a short version of it. The caller was pointed and great.

1. How did this caller get through...
he never takes a call where he has to answer with facts because he has none.

6. Actually this clip cuts off the first third and the last third
in the first third the caller spells out details of each of the points as well as pointing out that Reagan "increased taxes on Social Security" (actually Reagan initiated taxes on Social Security).

then the clip

then Rush cuts him off and only offers that "Reagan was promised cuts along with the increases", which would lead to the obvious observation that either Rush is giving an excuse or Reagan was naive. He offers several other excuses for "Ronaldous Maximous".

2. Everything conservatives believe is reliant on a faith based system
Reagan is superman because they "believe" it to be true.

3. Reagan is a hero for conservatives because conservatives don't know their own history.
And the reason the don't is due in large part to Rush Limbaugh.

17. Reagan is a hero because the last two Republican Presidents were wimps and idiots
The Republicans haven't had a president since Eisenhower that wasn't a crook, idiot, or wimp. Reagan was an actor with an Alzheimer's brain who made a good prop for his handlers. The Republicans are just a facade for the powerful that have money.

4. Caller to Limbaugh: "Why are you dodging the question?"
"Reagan was a tax-raising, amnesty-giving, cut-and-running, negotiating-with-terrorits guy, why is he a hero to Republicans?"

Loved it!

Rush's response, after a period of speachlessness: "You represent the impossibility of bridging the gap. Somebody like you just needs to be defeated"

Listen to it, shake your head and smile.

7. More precisely, why's he a hero to anyone?
Incompetent, surrounded by crooks and out-of-control zealots, intellectually very narrow, ethically slippery, and in his last years physically unfit for the job.

"Geniality raised to genius?"

8. Because he is the only President to make a movie with a chimp.
And then we had a chimp who became President.

See?

12. Rush should stick to arguing with inanimate objects
He's not very good with live things. He does much better arguing with a piece of audiotape or videotape, because the tapes just say the same thing over and over. When Rush does one of his patented frame shifts, the tape just says the same thing and looks foolish compared to the Master. When Rush has to take on someone live, he's in a buttload of trouble.

To the lurking Freeperati: Listen to Rush as you always do, but take this tidbit to heart. Rush does his best arguing with inanimate objects. If your idea of a masterful debater is someone who can out-talk a lamp, perhaps you should consider raising your standards. We've upped our standards at DU, now up yours.

13. He won "Big Time"
That is what Republicans like...a "winner" that is more important than any other factor. It doesn't matter what ethics are involved as long as they win...Ends justify the means..

16. He couldn't tell him the truth, of course.
Edited on Fri Feb-04-11 08:31 PM by Marr
Reagan remains a hero to the wealthiest 1%, because he governed for them alone. He used the powers of the state to break unions and attack the working class in a hundred ways, and to really begin the rigging of the economy for the wealthy few. THAT'S why they love him.

Rush's moronic fans love Reagan because their "betters" told them to.
