Isn't That Special... Update On Dems Union Free Convention...
<snip>

UPDATE II: On MSNBC this afternoon, Andrea Mitchell actually asked DNC Chair Tim Kaine why the party chose the home state of Bank of America and a right-to-work state, asking Kaine, “I defy you to find a labor hotel for these delegates, for all the AFL-CIO folks coming to Charlotte.

First off, when was the last time you heard a reporter or host even consider the words “right-to-work?” Second, Kaine predictably dodged the question, giving slight praise to the AFL-CIO. Kaine goes on to talk about new industries in North Carolina.

Kaine revealed though that President Barack Obama does not see unions as part of the “innovation economy,” and does not believe that unions to represent workers are part of the story to tell to Americans. Video and transcript below.

2. You'd be hard-pressed to find a city with a strong hotel union presence
The only two that I can think of are Las Vegas and San Francisco (my wife is a member of LOCAL 2 in SF). Even in Detroit, most hotel workers are non-union.

9. As Does The Democrats Snubbing Of Unions
Their bread and butter supporters.

Which Side Are You On?
A Song by Florence Patton Reece

Come all of you good workers
Good news to you I'll tell
Of how that good old union
Has come in here to dwell

Chorus
Which side are you on, boys?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on, boys?
Which side are you on?

My daddy was a miner
And I'm a miner's son
And I'll stick with the union
Till every battle's won

They say in Harlan County
There are no neutrals there
You'll either be a union man
Or a thug for J.H. Blair

Oh, workers can you stand it?
Oh, tell me how you can
Will you be a lousy scab
Or will you be a man?

Don't scab for the bosses
Don't listen to their lies
Us poor folks haven't got a chance
Unless we organize

5. obama knows the unions do`t have a choice
it`s either vote for him or vote for someone worse.

it really is pathetic to have a democratic president ignore the labor unions. i guess we do`t have the money and votes for him to take notice.

11. Well Hell Man... Maybe He Should Shoot The Moon, And Move 4 More Steps To The Right...
and take Georgia!

What will be ironic, will be if he fails to "hold" NC, while alienating thousands of life long Democrats and Union members around the rest of the country.

20. No... The Foolishly Idiotic Statement Was Relayed in The OP...
"Kaine revealed though that President Barack Obama does not see unions as part of the “innovation economy,” and does not believe that unions to represent workers are part of the story to tell to Americans."

That is the leader of the party telling us what the head of the party thinks about Unions.

STUPID!

21. Except that he says NO SUCH THING!!!
Watch the video ... at no time does he say what the OP claims. Nothing close.

He praises innovation that has come out of the RTP area. At no time does he disparage Unions.

The claim in the OP is BS.

22. I Dunno... That's The Implication I Got...
Mitchell: What about the fact that it is a right-to-work state? I defy you to find a labor hotel for these delegates, for all the AFL-CIO folks coming to Charlotte.

Kaine: Andrea, the AFL-CIO has very good presence in North Carolina, some great leadership. The fact of the matter is there are plusses and minuses with each of the four cities. When we look at North Carolina we feel there’s a good story to tell. The President last week in the State of the Union talked about the “innovation economy….”

After brushing off a direct question with politicianese... he goes on to promote the "Great Story" of the Charlotte "innovation economy" where apparently Unions do not play any sort of role.

24. Again I call BS!!
READ the first sentence of Kaine's statement... I'll help you ...

Kaine: Andrea, the AFL-CIO has very good presence in North Carolina, some great leadership.

Seems like a PRO UNION statement to me ...

But then you MISQUOTE HIM even after including his actual words in your post ... you claim he says that CHARLOTTE is the GREAT STORY ... yet he says no such thing, perhaps you should READ what he actually said!!!

He actually says ...

The fact of the matter is there are plusses and minuses with each of the four cities. When we look at North Carolina we feel there’s a good story to tell.

Do you see the difference ... he talks about NC ... YOU shift his comments to only Charlotte.

You seem to be hearing (reading) only what you want to hear (read), even when the ACTUAL words are right in front of you in your own post.

14. I am really distressed to read this
"Kaine revealed though that President Barack Obama does not see unions as part of the “innovation economy,” and does not believe that unions to represent workers are part of the story to tell to Americans."

If this is really the way Obama feels, then why is he calling himself a Democrat??
What has happened to the Democratic stance on unions??

not to rub it in anyone in particular's face--but nobody should be surprised by this
the New Dems/DLC's move to the right isn't some game to win and put some good things into action (as opposed to going "too left," which supposedly assures electoral loss, which does nobody any good if you're not elected)
their stances on Social Security, war, unions, BP, health insurers, tax breaks for the rich, etc., repeatedly and blatantly show us that they're not on our side (except occasionally gays)--no more than Jack London's Victorian-modeled/Gilded Age Iron Heel
they're not on our side; they're not doing everything they can (so get off their backs); it's not some FDL-Teabag axis of extremists trying to tear down the poor little virginal martyr-President and willing to lie because they're--well, they never EXPLAIN why "the Left" is simply not giving a permanent carte-blanche benefit of the doubt to consistent conservative policies

17. When my party abandons labor, it can no longer be called my party.
How do we bring pressure on this issue? Seriously, support of Labor is not a plank we can allow our party to abandon.

Would a boycott of the convention be out of the question?
