Snowmaggedon has arrived. Stay safe and warm, DUers.
And why do the news reports never show people stocking up at the liquor store?

1. 60+ inches in Boston so far this winter.
Another 16-20 coming down before tomorrow night.

Six and a half feet of snow.

FML.

23. Wow - we have less in NJ, but the most difficult thing in shoveling the
driveway is that the mounds on either side are almost shoulder high for me.

With 6 and 1/2 feet, I hope some has melted. How on earth do they clear the roads!

The big one hasn't even hit us yet but today has already dumped several inches
Best is yet to come. Can I change that to 'The worst is yet to come'?

12. And yet another Boston area person here
And I'm staying at work until today's storm is over. They say that should be between 6 and 8 PM. I figure it will be easier driving by then. Tomorrow is another story entirely.

25. Lots of Boston DUers here
I know you've had it worse than us Chicago area DUers. The older I get, the more I question my sanity for living here in the winter. I'll take the heat and humidity over this any day. At least you can go to the lake a cool off.

4. This will be our first "big" snowstorm this year.
Edited on Tue Feb-01-11 03:38 PM by Denninmi
Potentially could be among the top 10 or even top 5 in the Detroit area since records have been kept (1870). Predictions are 12 to 15 inches, more in some areas. With 40 MPH winds.

So far, a little bit overnight last night, like an inch here, a little more south of the city proper. Nothing all day, just cold and windy. The clouds are now lowering and thickening up. It has that look and feel of something coming.

Really, it's been a pretty easy winter here so far, snow-wise. One storm in December of about 5 1/2 inches, and a lot of little one and two inch snowfalls that are easy to clean up. I have a plow for my Chevy, but haven't put it on so far this year, just did it all by hand with a shovel. Looks like that is about to change.

Right now, mid-afternoon, it's 1 degree above zero.

Weather app says it'll drop to 11 below tonight.

A wee bit brisk...

9. 1/2 inch of ice expected in my area
extended power outages are likely.

I was driving back from Chicago during last night's "smaller" ice storm through Indiana & Ohio. A five hour drive took 11 hours of white-knuckling at 25-30 mph the whole time. Trucks whizzing by. I found a few of them later on the side of the road. One overturned w/ a rescue team on the scene. Traffic going into Indianapolis (the other way) was backed up for at least 10 miles.

I had to pull over every 20 minutes to scrape ice off my windshield wipers and headlights. It was hell, but the alternative was to be stranded for 3 days.

32. Yep. Both.
Started on 65. It started getting really bad around Lafayette. Total white-knuckle driving through Indy, then the traffic started mellowing out 30 miles East on 70. By then it was mostly trucks that seemed to know what they were doing (except the overturned ones).

are now headed for ice tonight through tomorrow.

The fun in Connecticut snow was over before last week as far as I'm concerned, lol.

27. lol
Truly the Chicago way.

Tons of people by me buying crazy amounts of food. (I was just cherry picking the sales since I had to be out anyway.) I questioned how long they thought they were going to be stranded and then realized it was the first of the month. Around here, that means their food stamp cards had been refilled and it's always a big rush.

14. NE MN had about a couple of inches yesterday but it is sunny today.
However, in the winter sunny often means colder -22 below wind chill. Are those of us in this area still supposed to get hit with this or is it going to miss us?

We have so much snow on the ground we don't know where we'll put it if we get another big storm. There is noplace left for the plow to push it. And don't get me started on the ice dams and all the damage being done to our house. And we have TWO MORE MONTHS of this shit!

Edited on Wed Feb-02-11 10:53 AM by Urban Prairie
Can't speak for the entire region, but looks like we may have got at most 3-4" overnight, if that, and it is still snowing, but lightly and it is not very windy at all...yawn.

Not looking forward to more single degree temps, but we also haven't had any early mornings with sub-zero temps here yet this winter either, but it has been below-freezing since the beginning of December, with maybe two brief thaws where the temps were in the upper 30s, it so far, has been a winter more like those of my youth, when we would build an ice rink in our backyard, and it would last until about early April.
