Good dog. Sniff my *** -- Early bowel cancer detected by dogs in Japan
Early bowel cancer detected by dogs in Japan

By James Gallagher
Health reporter, BBC news

A Labrador retriever has sniffed out bowel cancer in breath and stool samples during a study in Japan.

The research, in the journal Gut, showed the dog was able to identify early stages of the disease.

It has already been suggested that dogs can use their noses to detect skin, bladder, lung, ovarian and breast cancers.

 Maybe this could marketed as a much less invasive alternative to colonoscopies...

2. This is making me laugh.
I can't get the picture of dropping your pants and letting the dog sniff you outta my mind. I supposed it's no different than dropping your pants and letting someone stick a tube up yours.

3. "...early stage..."
This is really incredible. An amazing tool to be added to cancer detections testing.

4. So that is what my dogs are doing all day long.
I never knew they were proactively checking each other for cancer.

6. Maybe they are checking one another's diets...
"Hmmm, not enough roughage there, Ralph, and too much corn. Time to eat some grass, and maybe we can find you some three days dead roadkill."

Or...

"Hey, you stole the roast off the counter and you didn't share! Grrrrrr....."

7. I get that they can smell... however...
what do they do next?

I mean... they can't say, "Yeah, Joe... this is the Cancer one..."

They sniff it all. What different behavior do they display?
