Activision releases gameplay figures for Call of Duty

62 BILLION video game soldiers were harmed in the making of this story.

That's how many times players have died in blockbuster shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops since its release last November, according to publisher Activision.

Statistics released to Wired this week provide some startling insight into the numbers behind one of the most popular multiplayer games in the world.

For example, the total "kill count" is nine times the population of the world, or 62 billion.

Players shot down more than 1.2 billion virtual airplanes and destroyed about 900 million cars.
