Would you say he is emotionally unstable? (labile)?

On Sunday, Chris Wallace questioned him about his spontaneous crying and his smoking habit and he almost started crying.

It's rather unbecoming, don't you think?

Why does he do it?

I think that he is what is commonly referred to as "high-strung." He self-medicates by way of smoking, and possibly other forms of substance abuse. And he is also a Z-grade actor, who believes that his outbursts make him difficult to attack.
