I just saw a man shot to death.

Yes, right from my couch, I saw a man, one I never knew but now have huge feelings for, shot dead. He was unarmed. He was angry, probably hungry, armed only with his sense of decency.

It was on CNN. I saw footage of the uprising in Egypt. The producers/editors at CNN highlighted him. He was part of a crowd, shouting about poverty, injustice, government control and human rights. The crowd fled with fear as the line of police marched toward them. He stayed and continued shouting, one man.

As he stayed, the camera showed him and no one else. He was shot and his body crumpled, he was dead before he hit the ground.

I cried, almost instantly...

The only thing that makes it hard for me is a severely autistic child. If not for him, my answer would be easy. There are reasons I've begun training on guns, not only to be able to go dear hunting but to protect my family if necessary. Yeah. me. And yeah, I believe in gun control measures.

Frankly, this country is so thoroughly dominated and brainwashed by right-wing media that we'll never fight back like the Egyptians. The US populace he decided to live on its collective knees rather than killing off the tumors that infest it.

He'll, you didn't even have the sense to know you had nothing. Whatever or however the gift of consciousness was given to us is an unimaginable gift. To say you'd be 'pissed' about receiving it, tells me all I need to know about you.

Have you never had a good day?

8. I saw Anwar Sadat shot live in front of me many years
ago as well. It was being televised live on CNN in the middle of the night, which was day in Egypt. I couldn't sleep and turned the TV on and saw the whole bloody thing. Footage was run after that through the day and week, but CNN edited out the bloodiest part by then, but I saw it in real time with no editing. I was very shook up days after. However, it wasn't the first murder I had seen on TV. I saw Lee Harvey Oswald killed and Bobby Kennedy, but Sadat's was the bloodiest and most up close.

Bob said "Who?"

My little 7 yr old guy said " The PRESIDENT OF EGYPT"...please change the channel"..

Bob changed the channel

note: my son was not in school that day because he was recuperating from surgery and was not cleared to go back to school for another week:)

Did you know that just being able to speak out over the past week, is the first time the people of Egypt were able to do that? Can you empathize for just one moment with people who, if they dared, dared, to say one negative word about the dictator or his friends, they would be shot, or dragged into the street and beaten to death (yes, I can show you graphic photos if you like) or for just taking a photo.

Have you heard the people there when talking to reporters say that 'this is the first time I could speak' and seen the absolute emotion and the tears and the passion in their faces, just to be able to speak?

Giving in to authoritarians, making the 'choice' you admonish him for NOT making, to be compliant, to follow orders from authoritarian thugs, cost Egyptians 30 years of freedom!

You don't get it do you, he probably knew they would shoot him. He lives there, he knows what they are capable of, he's probably witnessed it since he was a child, and that day he chose to die rather than bow down one more time.

And because of him and all the other brave souls who did not take YOUR advice, generations of Egyptians have a chance to never again have to follow YOUR advice because if they don't they will die.

It is because of that kind of acvice, the advice YOU would have given that hero, and he will be one of Egypt's heroes in their history books, that countries end up the way Egypt did.

What is happening now in Egypt, should have happened at least two decades ago. But people thought, as you do, that it was better to just 'obey' orders just so they could stay alive. But they found out that that is not living, it is existing, feeling ashamed, humiliated all the time. And now, they've had enough, and people are willing to die on their feet, as this man did, rather than live on their knees.

Maybe you'll get it one day. People tend to get it after they've lived on their knees long enough.

He is an inspiration. We all die sooner or later after living our insignificant lives and no one remembers we ever lived at all.

He died for something worthwhile. HE, like all the heroes who have died for liberty throughout history, who chose not to follow the orders of illegitimate leaders, will be remembered by his people as a hero.

I really am sorry for you that you do not understand.

51. Can't this logic be used to justify any murder?
Ever heard of blaming the victim?

Everyone has a choice. If she'd just had sex with me willingly, I wouldn't have raped her!

When Egyptian cops start getting shot, what will you say? Judging by that post you will say "well, he knew people were getting pissed at them, but decided to keep oppressing them anyway. He made a choice to remain against the will of the people, and it turned out to be a deadly choice."

Of course you won't say that, since your attitude seems to be that the law is always right. That murder wasn't wrong because the proper authorities cleared it. If you could just get over your assumption that law equals morality, you would see this for the tragedy that it is.

Wisteria, you have a lot of thinking to do before you post any more on this topic...
