Thanksgiving Day, Then and Now

Warning: some of the photos at the Daily Mail link below are from the Depression.

It always touches me incredibly to see how men during the Depression had on the very best clothes that they could manage in order to stand on line for a job or a free meal.

Macy's Parade

Interesting to see the older features of the parades, how ratty some of the older costumes look, etc. Also interesting to see how spectators dressed. And what "the City" used to look like.

At the link below are videos of old parades. Note as well the old ad under the video, giving details about the parade.

Vintage photos.

Modern-slicker, more produced, but maybe also less charming.

My favorite thing to do on Thanksgiving while cooking. Watch the Today Show, then the parade, then, immediate star the Natalie Wood version of Miracle on 34th Street. I don't always get to do it, but I love when I do.

Bad news: the balloons might not be safe this year. Also, I've heard rumors that Macy's might not do the parade too much longer.

1. You are something.
All this entertainment. Thank you.

Macy's parade just won't be the same without the balloons!

2. Maybe they'll have them.

They've said in the past that they had safety concerns, but went ahead anyway.

I think there was a bad situation one of those times though.

Let's hope for the best.

And you're welcome about the pics and videos. I love seeing the old stuff.
