Mormon tourists flocking to Massachusetts (no pun intended).
Edited on Thu Oct-18-12 06:49 AM by No Elephants
When I go to get lunch, I am often smack on the Freedom Trail, Massachusetts's biggest tourist attraction.

Lately, I have been running into folks wearing Mormon T-shirts, either walking the Freedom Trail or waiting for the tourist shuttle to pick them up.

I guess the site of the real Tea Party, plus the state that elected a Mormon Governor who is now running for President, plus the original home of many ancestors is an enticing combination.

1. I think we are fools if we
don't admit that Romney's campaign and his desire for the highest office in the land isn't motivated mostly by his religion. That's just the way I see it. That's not to say that all Mormons have such an ambition.

My paternal grandparents were Mormon.

2. I think the Mormon religion very much wants a Mormon President.
I think it is bizarre that, for such a minority religion, we have three Mormons running for President this time around, Romney, Huntsman and Anderson.

The odds are mind boggling.

4. The DLC wisdom is that Democrat should get more into religion themselves.

In fact, when Kerry lost (if he lost), supposedly, he asked some advisor, "I got the religion thing wrong, didn't I?"

Um, no. Either that, or Thomas Jefferson got it wrong, too.

And, after the 2006 mid-term, Bubba was either giving an interview or speaking to some group--I don't remember which.

He was asked about some Democrat who had lost the election. And his answer was, "You know, Barack Obama campaigned with his minister." (Barack had also announced his candidacy in his church.) We all know what happened with that later, but in 2006, everything was still everything.

And, of course, Senator Clinton was side by side with the The Family group.

But, they used endorsements from Hagee and Parsley against McCain.

If anything from that 2008 election, I hope politicians will start to re-think using clergy to imbue them with an aura of holiness.

I think Ensign and Sanford were also part of The Family and probably still are. Repentance fixes everything, ya know.

But, I digress. My point is that Democrats have been taught that religion is untouchable in a political campaign. Though, I am sure Republicans would not hesitate to use lack of religion against a Democratic candidate (if any Democrat who runs for office dares not to have chosen a place of worship at least several years before running).
