No such thing as a $0 day.

2. I Spent $0 Yesterday...
I may have used resources but no MONEY left my hands and went into somebody else's

On Black Friday they want that money that day

They will sell the shit before the 25th but it's super important to them to get that money that day

3. You missed the point, though it was only implied
The point was no extra expenditures vis-a-vis "Black Friday", I imagine. I also spent no money yesterday, although I did schedule my insurance payment to be sent early next month.

5. Maybe denying the local retailer a few bucks is not such a great triumph
when you are still shelling out money to energy co's, financial service co's, cable and cellphone co's etc. is my point.

could support Occupy Los Angeles. That was it as far as currency leaving my hands or my bank account.

11. Hah...got ya beat!!!
I spent about $63.00 yesterday.

I live 20+ miles from any city, and had an appointment yesterday. Doesn't make a bit of sense to be out anyway and not stop in at the store to get what I needed.

So I did.

8. lame54...ignore the trolls....they willfully do nit understand because ...
they prefer to be part of the problem. I, too, stayed home and spent no money on cheap crap from china at a discount. I did not wait in line, camp out in the cold, or fight with crowds to spend money with merchants who would destroy the world.

I am glad to meet another who celebrates buy nothing day. I wish that more people celebrated this important day. It might make more retailers stop the madness and let their employees actually spend time with their families. How many cons wail about the the destruction of the family and yet, they support these events that force ordinary people to work on a day that is supposedly dedicated to family. Like so many other things in America, this holiday too, has been twisted into something that serves the god of money.

13. I'm not a troll.
I also don't particularly care if you consider me part of the 'problem'. I too, did not camp out, nor did I wait in the cold.
I left my home at 3pm.
I'm leaving here in a little while to support Small Business Saturday.
As far as 'cheap crap from china at a discount' I buy American made products whenever I can.

14. Well, THIS "troll"...
lives more than 20 miles in any direction from a city and had an appointment yesterday.

It would be stupid in the extreme to NOT spend money while I was already out.

It's not nice to call people "trolls" when you don't know what their circumstances are.

9. Me neither.
Today is "Small Business Saturday."
I was thinking that maybe I would go shopping today.
Then I went to the Small Business Saturday website:

http://smallbusinesssaturday.com/

Sponsors for this "event" include the following:

American Express, FedEx, Clear Channel, AOL, AT&T, Bing, Delta Airlines, Dun and Bradstreet, Gannett, Hertz, HP, Hyatt, Iron Mountain, Microsoft, US Chamber of Commerce, USA Today, Verizon, Xerox, and Yahoo.

I think I'll have another Buy Nothing Day today...

23. What difference do the so called "sponsors" make?
It is the small business getting the money, not those sponsors. They are not the owners of the small businesses I would shop at.

I suppose you support no hiring by company's until Obama is out of office as well?

32. My electricity bill is already paid.
I pay in advance most months, since I only get paid once a month. I've already paid for the electricity I'm using today. My place is all electric, so I use it for the well pump, for cooking, for laundry, for heating water, for lights and other appliances, and, yes, for my computer.

I buy my electricity from a co-op. I get to choose to pay a bit more to get my energy from a local source; burning methane produced by a landfill. It's a co-op. Every 2 years, I get a check from them. They divide whatever was left over from projected costs among members.

I'm struggling to make a connection between not spending on Black Friday and a company not hiring until Obama is out of office. I don't see a reasonable connection between the two.

I just see someone who wants to argue about something so badly they don't care what the topic is.

39. Consumers don't have to spend on "Black Friday" to equal jobs.
Whenever I spend, whatever I spend on, it supported someone's job.

I don't have to race to shop the day after Thanksgiving in a frenzy to fight my way through the pack to buy stuff to contribute to the economy. Neither do I have to camp out for a day or two instead of spending the holiday with my family to ensure that I'll be ahead of the pack and get the most or best stuff or deals, in order to have contributed.

Here's a fact: I have family who work in retail. A couple of them dread this week; they tell me it's the worst week to work all year. Not that they don't want business; they do. They just don't enjoy the insanity that this week brings.

One family member is a manager of a relatively major chain store. His store is giving 15% discounts for "Black Friday." He started giving them last Monday, telling his customers that they didn't have to wait or make an extra trip. They were grateful. The corporate office probably won't be, but he is allowed some discretion. It's the sales for the week that will count.

The catch? Earlier in the week, it really was a 15% discount. On Black Friday? A faux discount produced by some cost-cutting system changes nation wide, kicking in just in time to tell customers that they are getting a "discount," which will, of course, be temporary, boosting profits after the "discount" ends.

Screw black Friday if you need something to make your world go round. Oh, the tire wasn't made in USA either, so screw that 'buy America' crap if this country doesn't even manufacture a comparable tire.

Right now, my lady and I are on vacation in the Pacific Northwest, and yesterday was our day to hit Wine Country Thanksgiving in Oregon. We bought about a case or so of locally produced wines from organic farms, directly from the family-run wineries. Now that's supporting small business!
