There are lots of book bloggers and authors who hold contests and giveaways, not only this time of year but year-round. Many of them are for children's books.

I just wanted to let you know there are ways to get something special for your child or grandchild without having to spend money. You do need a mailing address, but that's usually it. The person doing the giveaway almost always pays the shipping.

Just google "book giveaways" and start following some of the parenting or book blogs. I'm an author and I give away tons of books for children every year through my newsletter and on twitter. I just wanted to make sure my DU friends who need it know about this great way to get books.

5. Dolly Parton's Library

It probably is too late to sign up to get a book by the holidays but in some areas across the country you can sign any child, 5 and under up for Dolly Parton's Library and they will receive a free book every month until they are five.
