Nine businesses ticketed for Black Friday opening
KMOV) – Nine businesses in Chesterfield Valley were ticketed on Black Friday starting at midnight for being open.

Officials say that Chesterfield has a city ordinance that prohibits retail stores from being open 24 hours.

According to authorities, all stores were contacted and notified of the ordinance.

A spokesperson for Target said on Friday that the Chesterfield Valley location was issued a citation for opening at midnight.

2. I am SO glad they got it all under control in Chesterfield Valley!
Is the police chief named Barney Fife, and he gets one bullet per year from the city council?

makes almost as much sense as Indiana's "No car sales on Sunday" law.

8. You know, I used to think "blue laws" were complete bull, but as I grow older....
...I tend to think that not every single day of the year should be a capitalistic free-for-all.

11. ONE Country I am aware of here (Bergen) has strict blue laws
and every time it hits a vote to change, it gets handily defeated. And the big box stores don't get that open 7 days just spreads he pie thinner and increases the expenses.

13. I used to live in Bergen and I adored the blue laws.
I don't much care which day of the week, but I do love the practice.

17. Agreed
I work in retail and work every Sunday. For me it is voluntary & a premium pay day. In doing so I am able to get two days together off each week courtesy of a strong Union contract, but I do recall the days when we were not allowed to open on Sundays and it really wasn't all that bad.

16. Some people have such hideous work hours that Sundays are the only days they have free to take care

of errands--including shopping for needed things. The same people who work M-F don't necessarily have to be the ones manning the stores on Sunday. Different employees can work different days.

9. Well,
The business were advised of the law ahead of their decision to open. They could have found a simple work around, such as opening at 12:15am thereby not being open 24 hours. The law may be misguided and antiquated, yet it is the law and I see no reason why they should be allowed to ignore it. If pulled over doing 55 in a 30 mph speed zone, I would expect to be ticketed.

3. If they still have the no 24 hour law on their books
they should have closed for an hour. That's how stores got around it here. That law has since been struck because so many stores are open 24 hours now.

5. You don't pepper spray the "job creators", that would be police brutality.
Pepper spray is just for the socialist commie lowlifes and the "little people".

That would be like serving white wine with red meat!
