Argentinian Doctors Identify Major Health Problems Associated With GMO Soy
Nov. 25, 2011

http://healthimpactnews.com/2011/argentinian-doctors-identify-major-health-problems-associated-with-gmo-soy/

A report by Argentine physicians points to the major health problems arising from the increasing use of GM Roundup Ready (RR) soy in the country. It is the product of the 1st National Meeting Of Physicians In The Crop-Sprayed Towns organized by the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the National University of Cordoba and held in August this year. The meeting was attended by more than 160 participants from the provinces in Argentina as well as from six national universities.

Presentations and stories of the participants matched the clinical observations of a range of diseases and health conditions on people subject to Roundup herbicide sprayings. These include acute poisoning, exceptionally high incidences of miscarriages and birth defects in newborns in the crop-sprayed towns. There is also an increased detection of cancers in children and adults, and serious illnesses, such as Henoch–Schönlein purpura, toxic liver disease, and neurological disorders.

The physicians, many of whom have served for more than 25 years, found that such health problems were quite unusual and strictly linked to systemic sprayings of pesticides. The report also contains a lot of details about DNA damage, confirming laboratory research on glyphosate and its breakdown product AMPA, and neurological development problems.

8 Reasons Genetically Modified Organisms are Bad for You

..The bottom line is that genetically modified organisms have not been proven in any way to be safe, and most of the studies are actually leaning the other direction, which is why many of the world’s countries have banned these items whose DNA has been genetically engineered. In America, they aren’t even labeled, much less banned, so the majority of the populace has no idea that they are eating lab-created DNA on a daily basis.

GMO foods linked to digestive problems and ecosystem destruction

What are the harmful effects of GMOs to our health and the health of the planet?

...When talking about human health, we’re still very much guinea pigs as far as long-term effects. But many studies already show many negative side effects on our organs, particularly our digestive system. I can’t imagine how many neurological disorders will continue to rise as a direct result from further GMO exposure. Essentially, we’re eating fake food… even poison in the form of food. It’s not real. In livestock, who consume much more GMOs than we do, studies have shown high rates of SDS (sudden death syndrome), high infertility rates, and premature death in foetus and baby animals. In nature, this stuff can react or act as a poison. We have no idea how many different reactions can happen yet. We’re still learning… not comforting facts. There have been direct studies that the use of Roundup Ready GM crops are decimating the monarch butterfly population. Studies also show that when three consecutive generations of mammals consume an all-GMO diet, they can no longer produce another generation. That should scare the hell out of us.

2. You're welcome. I had put another article on earlier and I have been swamped with
negativity over it. I think this is extremely important and it may be linked to autism. I say MAY - but time will tell!

8. Do NOT like Monsanto and their business practices at all. However...
...from the first excerpt, the problem appears not to be the GMO itself, but massive overuse of the herbicides and pesticides used in parallel with the GM crops.

It's exactly the same underlying problem as exccessive application of fertiliser, resulting in nutrient runoff into rivers, blooms of toxic algae and dead zones in the oceans.

You CANNOT convince most people, even with a club, that more is not always better. It may be possible, with sufficient oversight and vigorous enough application of that club, to ENFORCE correct portions, but let up for a moment and the cheaters are back at it and trying to make up for lost time.

It's the mindset behind overfishing; and behind the use of DDT as a pesticide, when it was developed as a repellent surface spray.

Greed coupled with shortsighted stupidity and/or ignorance on the part of the end user is far more the culprit here than Monsanto, bad as they are.

9. I just read a good book
about GMOs. While the book is fiction the author had a lot of good points he brings up in the author's note at the end. I got the book on my Kindle for free but it is now $2.69 but well worth it.

12. Corporate Industrial Ag (R) is deliberately mutating the whole freaking food chain
Edited on Sat Nov-26-11 07:35 AM by SpiralHawk
They are creating for themselves vast monopolistic profit, and systemic disease and weakness for plants, animals, and ultimately people.
