Why can't I stop myself from reading tragic children stories?

...and why do people hurt small children? I just read the story about the little girl found dead in a creek, still in her car seat; and presumably murdered by her father.

These stories rip my heart out yet I can't stop reading them and wishing I could have somehow helped. I just fail to understand what can make a person do these kinds of things.

I heard that one on the news when I was home for lunch. Over and over I hear these stories and read them, people killing babies. I don't understand at all. It is like these people aren't even sentient.

I can't stop reading them either, I guess I'm always trying to find some answer "why?".

and avoid most topics on that.

Its not at all that I don't care - but it physically makes me feel sick to hear some of these stories and I can't see that helping anything.

I know a lot of people that can't stop, it just seems a part of curiosity and human nature.

I read things I really wish I could erase from my mind, but I cannot.
All we can do is try to help the ones we can.

7. I couldn't do it. I'd end up in jail because I would hurt those people

8. At one time I watched Little House on the Prairie and that was a weekly sob fest.

Somewhere along the line I guess there was enough real world tragedy that I didn't need that fix anymore. (sigh)

9. I do it too.

I go to CafeMom and they always have an awful story about some poor child. I don't know why I read the articles, yet, I do. Like the one you just linked to. I am sitting here nursing my child being very thankful that his father and I love him.
