“I’ll call you anything I want to call you when you’re in that chair. You just be quiet.” says Rep
Professor tells politician: “I pay your salary”

Young, who supports drilling in ANWR, set off the fiery exchange when he called Brinkley’s testimony “garbage” and then mistakenly called Brinkley “Dr. Rice.”

“It’s Dr. Brinkley. Rice University is a university,” Brinkley said. “I know you went to Yuba (Community) College…”

Young, who is visibly angry in the video of the exchange, shouted back, “I’ll call you anything I want to call you when you’re in that chair. You just be quiet.”

Brinkley, of course, didn’t take those comments lightly or back off.

“You don’t own me,” the professor said. “I pay your salary. I work for the private sector and you work for the taxpayer.”

5. These asshole politicians are getting out of hand.
Edited on Mon Nov-21-11 04:54 PM by Youth Uprising
First, Rahm Emanuel spends his time under the Obama administration thumbing his nose at the very people who where responsible for getting them into office; working against them at every turn and deriding them and their ideas, next Scott Walker ignores the will of the people and strips workers of their collective bargaining rights, then Joe Walsh has his little outburst where he berates his constituents, and now this. They've shown off their true colors and the utter contempt they have for Democracy and the American people. The people should not have to put up with this kind of abuse from their so called elected representatives. They've awaken a sleeping giant and I sincerely hope they get what's coming to them.

We've been trying to get rid of that old coot for decades, but somehow he keeps getting elected. About the only good thing I can say for him is that he does support labor (e.g., he voted for Lilly Ledbetter) and he truly loved his deceased wife. It's definitely time for him to go, though. He's really been losing it lately.

10. The media keeps saying that..
they have to go against the majority of the country because of their constituents and they need to keep their seats.

First of all a lot of their constituents don't know even half of what their congressmen or senator are doing and they don't have all of the facts.

Secondly, they don't own those damn seats!!!

20. The esteemed historian Douglas Brinkley is not "just" a professor:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Brinkley

Brinkley is a prolific and acclaimed historian, writer, and editor.

Ambrose called Brinkley "the best of the new generation of American historians."<5> Brinkley and Ambrose wrote three books together: The Rise to Globalism: American Foreign Policy Since 1938 (1997), Witness to History (1999), and The Mississippi and the Making of a Nation: From the Louisiana Purchase to Today (2002), a National Geographic Society best-seller (published on the bicentennial of Thomas Jefferson's doubling the territory of the United States).<6> Patrick Reardon from the Chicago Tribune anointed Brinkley America's "new past master." <7> In contrast in 2006, historian Wilfred McClay in the New York Sun appraised Brinkley's scholarship as one that has failed to "put forward a single memorable idea, a single original analysis or a single lapidary phrase."

Six of his award-winning books have been selected as New York Times Notable Books of the Year.

35. Insults Say More About the Person Using Them Than the Person They're Directed At
Brinkley got off a lovely parting shot, but when he insulted the Rep for attending a community college, he was proving true all the claims about liberals engaging in 1st Class snobby, elitist bullshit.

45. He Stated He Knew Where he went to College, Because the Rep didn't know where the Dr. Works
which is a very good point to make, and no, I do not believe the Dr. was trying to be smug or even putting down his college. I think he was just bringing up the fact that the Dr. seemed to be more aware of him, then the rep did of the Dr., which is embarrassing and shows the rep had very little knowledge on his end, that he wasn't taking the proceeding serious enough.

What he should have done instead of pressing the issue after his initial correcting was call Young, "Mister Yuba." When Young objected to that, he could have continued with, "I pay your salary. I'll call you whatever I want, cupcake."

Wishes he could be called before congress.
