7. Myth that the internet was designed to "reroute when under attack."
In fact the nodes are still highly centralized in major hubs and can be shut down relatively easily. ARPANET was for time sharing, the internet itself evolved from peoples need to network among one another. Until we have a grid the internet will be susceptible to attacks. See Egypt where the whole internet was turned off for a bit there and Libya where it was turned off for months.

If the United States wanted to they could activate an internet kill switch.

But it would likely result in civil war (or be the result of civil war, anyhow).

6. DARPA's complicity in OWS only matters insomuch that it sped up the development...
...of networks.

The networks already existed before DARPA and likely would've gone ahead with private industry. We likely wouldn't be quite where we are today as far as penetration, but we'd have a network.

8. The CIA gave LSD to Robert Hunter and Ken Kesey.
Funny how things work out.

9. LOL! Yes! I DID think of that, but technically it was ARPA that brought it to the public.
But that aside, DARPA created the foundation and basic IP standards and they are still in place. If it wasn't for NAT and un-routable addresses, we wouldn't have a working network under those original standards. ASCII wasn't designed for 16 bits either, but it worked and still works. Since English (or "American" as many people call it) occupies the same space in 8 and 16 bits, it just translates with truncation. For the rest of the world, those extra 8 bits are everything.
