Inarticulate Occupy San Diego protester says his 'moment of solidarity' was misunderstood
Source: San Diego City Beat

..."Whoever shot at the White House is basically a terrorist," LoRusso tells CityBeat, "and I was holding a moment of silence for the White House and President Obama and everyone in the White House. I wasn't holding a moment of silence for the terrorist in any way. We're a peaceful movement, and we don't support people shooting at the White House."

To be fair, LoRusso's off-the-cuff speech during last night's protest could be interpreted as supporting the shooter, but only because he's not the most articulate speaker. (It's worth adding that usually at Occupy SD events anyone can take the mic and speak.) -snip-

Thought it was important to post this to counter a previous LB post on DU.

Not everyone in this world is a world class speaker .... and since the Occupy Movement lets anyone have a word in it ... stuff like this is bound to happen. Peace.

3. I thought so to Pacalo.
I posted the story in the other LB thread but thought it might need it's own OP to quickly nip it in the bud. Peace.

The other thread--another late night attack on OWS and consequently the many supporters on DU.

5. Is inarticulate an excuse?
He clearly says in the tape "and for the guy who shot at the White House." It was just plain stupid, and some of the people around him look pretty surprised.

We don't cut Herman Cain or Rick Perry slack when they say, 'oh, I was just tired and that's not what I meant' after one of their ridiculous statements backfires. This kid is in the same boat: he said something really really stupid and now he realizes it was a mistake. But he did say it. I just clicked on the tape and listened.

"...we should hold a moment of solidarity for the WHITE House and the guy who shot at the white house..."

It's about 42 seconds in.

This doesn't really compare with Cain or Perry who say a stupid thing and then when questioned on it, defends it and implies the questioner is just too dumb to understand rather then just admitting he flubbed his words.

Remember Cain on if abortion is a women's choice or if it should be illegal?

Plus I admit to a certain bias here but I think a candidate for the POTUS should be held to s higher standard then some guy off the street speaking after the end of the day.

12. C'mon people. Unwad those panties and move on. It was an honest mistake.
I hate how we must jump on people for every little speech mistake.

Get over it.

13. Oh, c'mon. It was an "honest mistake" because the guy was in a group that
is acceptable to *this* group.

An "honest mistake" by a member of the 'other side' is jumped on like fleas on a hound dog. And then talked about for days.

Both sides do this. It's just the way of the world.

16. What got me is not the fact that this kid wasn't the sharpest.
Or, even that he got a shot at the microphone.

What got me is that, after he said what he said, no one said to him, "Wait...What the fuck did you just say?".

But hey, this is what anarchy looks like.

17. Well he said lets have a moment of silence for BOTH
the WH STAFF and this guy.

And no, it is not anarchy... but I guess it will take pages upon pages upon pages to explain where they are coming from. Should I recommend some Gandhi... and how Gandhi also loved those who wanted to hurt him.

And no, not everybody at Occupy has a PhD in history and economics and can wax poetically on the theory of power and the state.
