Anyone listen to Thom Hartmann today? A little ominous, but I agree with him.

Referencing the Occupy movements, he said that we're at one of those points in history where a revolution is indeed underway, and that the political/economic system is imploding. He also mentioned two scenarios: 1) A global economic collapse or 2) Real efforts to fix the problems, of which, he said 1) is most likely because nothing structural has changed since the meltdown.
Sobering, but necessarily so.

3. I hope it's 2), but I fear it's 1). Too much greed exists, the foundation
is corrupt and rotten all over the place and I really don't see it getting under control. Too many are pulling the strings for their own selfish reasons and there is a level of insanity in the air. All, IMO, not a good mix for 2) to occur.

4. You need #1 to get to #2, I'm afraid.
We're so entrenched, ignorant, powerless, beyond repair, etc.

It may transition quickly. Let's pray that it does.

5. He is probably correct
it's all being held together with bullshit at this point anyways. all it's going to take for things to collapse is for a critical mass of people here to start paying attention.

then again, this is America, where a hell of a lot of people have their heads buried in the sand.

6. Unfortunately,
#2 is likely to remain a fantasy as long as Republicans control the White House and/or the House and/or enough votes in the Senate to filibuster every effort to fix things. Sobering indeed.

8. This is why the principles of #Occupy are so very important.
See someone in need, do something to help them. Contribute to the whole as you are able. Bring problems to the attention of all. Address and solve the problems. All voices are equal.

We're going to have to take care of each other because the current system doesn't. Support the growth of #Occupy as you are best able.

12. Thom was being a bit sensationalistic here
If you listen to him often enough you would know that he is the eternal optimist. That is mostly why I listen to him, when I think that the problems we face are hopeless I can count on Thom to give me hope.

13. I don't think he was trying to say things are hopeless, but that the current order has to fall.....
Edited on Wed Nov-16-11 11:56 PM by marmar
..... before we can go about repairing them. An economic collapse will get rid of that order.

And I do listen to him all the time. He's an optimist, but not so much so that he won't acknowledge reality.

16. Problem is the whole system is corrupt to the core...
And we're not alone...this is basically a world-wide problem. The oligarchs have taken over with the only intention to profit off the system while the rest get screwed. Unfortunately for us, the PTB has figured out how to profit off of destruction, disaster and chaos.

So, no, I don't see a global meltdown out of the question, but in fact part of the big picture plan. For one thing the oligarchs hate government and democracy, so the best way to shrink its influence and to get it out of the way of profiteering is to drown it through reduced tax revenue brought on by unemployment and economic collapse.

Power and profit is their only motive, their only religion.

It's time to take the power back to the people!

17. Bernie Sanders was on when I listened ... however, people make an economy and banks/financial
institutions and RW politicians manipulate it for profits for the few --

All of the New Deal restrictions on financial institutions should be reinstated --

without that, we're sitting ducks for more theft from the public.

Elites have been working to destroy world economies/labor for decades and more!

This economic depression has been as engineered as the first one -- by elites!

We don't have problems with our economy -- we have problems with corrupt politicians

and suicidal and corrupt elites!!

you will find a sort of Shock Doctrine effect occuring.

On purpose.

What they can destroy, they can control. This means =everything=. Yep, they'd destroy the world economy in order to use it as a power grab. They're already doing it. They are buffered by riches and investment in more stable items such as gold so a crash wouldn't hurt them very much, and the potential benefits are...complete.

I've been screaming about this for years. Google me up on teh DU with the phrases "money buddies" and "kings and queens" and perhaps "unaccountable" or "unaccountability".
