DEVELOPING: Former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky admitted to showering and horsing around with young boys but said he is not a pedophile in an exclusive interview with Bob Costas for NBC News' Rock Center airing tonight at 10 pm/9 CT.

"I say that I am innocent of those charges," said Sandusky in a phone interview with Costas.

When asked by Costas, "Are you a pedophile," Sandusky responded "No."

Joe Paterno’s one time defensive coordinator was charged earlier this month with 40 counts of sexually abusing eight boys. He is currently free on a $100,000 bond and has denied any wrongdoing. The allegations date back to 1994, according to a grand jury report. A grand jury report detailed claims of alleged sexual encounters with young boys in Paterno's home, hotels and Penn State locker rooms.

8. I think they really messed up and put Paterno's home instead of...
Sandusky's. Further down in the article it says essentially the same thing but with Sandusky's home mentioned:

"The alleged victims testified that they were abused in hotel rooms, Sandusky’s own home and on Penn State’s campus."

10. The original story on MSNBC has now been corrected to
state that it was Sandusky's home, not Paterno's home.

4. Showering with young boys
...is inappropriate and a lack of judgement. Rape is, however, a little less nuanced and totally unforgivable--as you are about to find out when you have your day in court.

It's not on the judge's list of options, but I would suggest a fitting punishment would be 30 minutes in a room with the fathers of all of your victims.

5. Problem is that many fathers of the victims are non-fathers.
Hence their involvement with the program Sandusky started. I doubt many of them even know about these allegations.

...what I meant is that would probably not be illegal, but *always* inappropriate.

When I was a boy, we often went swimming with our dad at a large downtown YMCA. We showered with adults in the communal shower room. I'm sure there were times when we might have been showering with only one other adult male present, but that would have been incidental, not by anyone's design.

17. when I went back to school to get a Master's in my late 50s I used the college
indoor pool regularly and the showers were communal. It was a Catholic institution, still run by Dominican nuns, and one of the older ones swam and showered there at about the same time as I did. She blithely stripped down and showered. When I told my husband that I showered with a naked nun, he looked at me as if I had lost my mind. I said we chatted about ancient Greece (she was a Classics prof) and the movie "Troy." I remember that we called her Sister Mary Faith...
