http://www.jsonline.com/news/education/a-closer-look-at-survey-of-school-districts-qp30eck-133668368.htmlSeems our governor is playing fast and loose with the facts.
..snip..
Survey says: Statewide, the school districts' staffs were reduced by a net total of 3,368 - triple the reduction of the previous school year. And an analysis of DPI data indicates 1,608 of those staff reductions were teachers. Walker and the GOP countered that new teacher hires have outnumbered layoffs and non-renewals by 1,213 positions.
The difference? The governor's number does not include retirements. According to a Journal Sentinel analysis of the survey figures, more than 3,200 teachers retired this year. State Schools Superintendent Tony Evers said at a news conference Thursday in Monona that was 21/2 times the number of retirements the previous year.
Take-away: More than 75% of school districts responding to the survey had a net loss of staff, including teachers, administrators, teacher's aides and support staff, according to DPI, which is headed by an elected superintendent independent of the governor.
..end..
Hey, Walker's a college dropout (or kicked out, depending on who's story you hear). Did we really think he would value education.
