Wave of Corruption Sweeps Over NYPD
It's mostly petty stuff, but New York's cops are getting involved in quite a number of illegal activities. The problem is growing, and it's starting to worry New Yorkers.

"NEW YORK -- Police officers accused of making traffic tickets disappear for friends. Cops arrested in a gun-running sting. An officer convicted of planting drugs on innocent people.

"The unusual spate of corruption and misconduct allegations at the New York Police Department is prompting cries for an investigation into whether there is an endemic problem or a few bad apples, drawing comparisons to past scandals and renewing questions about whether the police department can effectively police itself.

Ray Kelly is busy running a spy agency to rival the Central Intelligence Agency. He recently appeared on television to boast about the new police helicopter that can shoot down an airplane. He's apparently not worried about whether discipline is breaking down. And clearly it is. It took the cops a long time to deal with Deputy Inspector Anthony Bologna who committed an assault right on camera. Spray Can Tony's "punishment" turned out to be a transfer to a duty station closer to home.

1. I know one shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but looking at the faces of
some of the cops beating the OWS people I'm not at all surprised. Those looked like a bunch of thugs in uniform.

3. A Courtesy Not a Crime
Rememer Nixon's theory of criminality? It's not a crime if the president does it. So if a cop drives drunk, who's going to arrest him? Not another cop.

You're picking on me again.

4. In the NYPD in particular, there is no such thing as a good cop.
They're all corrupt psychopaths. Every last one.

6. Puts Fires Out
Water helps put fires out. Another amazing property is that it makes plants grow. And it's free! It falls from the sky.
