President Obama threatens veto of Rand Paul's pro-pollution measure
Edited on Tue Nov-08-11 03:11 PM by marmar
(Bloomberg) President Barack Obama’s administration threatened to veto a Senate measure that would block Environmental Protection Agency regulations aimed at curbing pollution from coal-fired electric plants.

Obama’s advisers would recommend that he veto the measure sponsored by Senator Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican, if it clears Congress, according to a statement today from the White House Office of Management and Budget.

The measure “would cause substantial harm to public health and undermine our nation’s longstanding commitment to clean up pollution from power plants,” the budget office said.

Paul’s measure is being offered under the Congressional Review Act, which lets lawmakers push for expedited votes to reject pending regulations. The Senate is scheduled to consider the resolution this week. Unlike most bills in the Senate, it requires a simple majority of 50 votes, not the 60 usually required to end debate. ...........(more)

1. That's unfortunate.
I'm sure we could all do with more pollution.

Rand Paul can always go back to his brain-dead constituents and explain "Hey, at least I tried to make the country a shittier place!"

2. it requires a simple majority of 50 votes, not the 60 usually required to end debate.
Why?

Because the democrats won't filibuster a republican bill?
They fear big energy?
Or they want to show the Republicans how big boys act, so they can ignore it?
