If you live in Mississippi, get out and VOTE NO on 26!
It will make any death of an unborn child a crime of murder. Miscarry? You will be interrogated.

Vote no on 26.

Edited on Tue Nov-08-11 11:18 AM by Rowdyboy
and no to banning eminent domain, no to Phil Bryant, no to Tate Reeves and no to every other Reptilican on the ballot.

I fully expect to lose every one of those races but at least we voted.

8. I may not live in MS, but I so hope this
goes down. I'm afraid it won't, though, and that's truly frightening. The backers cannot fully explain what will be the results of their very broadly-written law. You bring up miscarriages, and that's one of the first things I thought of when I heard about this. As if a miscarriage isn't traumatic enough. What are they going to do, have a department of pregnancy investigation and conduct vaginal examinations? While that may seem far-fetched, that was part of Ceaucescu's (sp?) Romania, believe it or not.

And what about ectopic pregnancies? Another doctor in MS expressed that concern, saying that the law would have horrific consequences, and he brought up ectopic pregnancies. I've known some RWs who can't seem to wrap their minds around the fact that not only are miscarriages natural and NOT deliberate, but ectopic pregnancies are ALWAYS dangerous and MUST be removed or there will be horrible consequences for the mother. And they can't seem to wrap their minds around the fact that ectopic pregnancy will NOT go beyond two or three months, at the most, the fallopian tube ain't the uterus. I'm especially disgusted with the MS doctors who are pushing this. I've had some nearly-insane OB-GYN's, but these people really take the cake.

11. This is theocratic evil gone legislative
It would be a damn disaster. The ramifications are horrific. Ectopic pregnancies would be fatal, and a D&C would be murder.

I've never seen such a horrible piece of legislation in my life.

Edited on Tue Nov-08-11 11:49 AM by Aerows
And that is mine as well. It's ludicrous.

EDIT: Not that I'm a doctor. I'm just a thinking human, which seems to be rare among our legislature.

13. With 26, can a pregnant woman claim another deduction?
This could cost MS some money.

(never mind. I'm pretty sure I already know the answer)

24. How about the retirees all going back for those 9 months
they are owed. They reached retirement 9 months before they were allowed to claim it.

And all the parents who could seek to amend their tax forms (US & MS) to get the deductions they are owed.

And how about getting insurance on that little baby bump as soon as you know or not having it when you get in an accident and something happens to the bump. It could be insurance companies will be quite busy with all sorts of new policies and claims.

Vehicular manslaughter charges if mom wrecks her car and the impact causes the death of her bump?

Moms with cancer cannot be treated, the doc cannot guarantee the life of the bump so won't risk murder charges. What's a wait of a few months when it comes to cancer.

A fertile egg is a life, there goes docs helping couples get pregnant. You know how that works and how there is no guarantee ...

And on and on and on.

34. Whoa, I hadn't even thought of the cancer aspect!
Holy shit, what a mess that would be for a pregnant woman with cancer. You'd better believe that they'd use this law against her and deny any treatment, thus maybe costing her life. And you wanna that their flippant response will be, well, if you don't like it, go to another state! But how feasible is that for the majority of women? Hey, what's HER life, anyway, the important thing is saving the fetus, even if it has to grow up motherless! UGH. I think these people are stuck in 1911, not 2011.

31. If it passes, go to all the elderly you know and all the
retirees and tell them to put in a claim for the 9 months of their retirement or SS that they didn't get. We need everyone to claim those lost 9 months.

And every parent-to-be (or parent after this law) should insure the bump and go to the courthouse to get the conception or fertilization certificate so that the bureau of vital statistics will be current and census numbers correct.

33. Oh, I agree
Chances are - it could pass (though on the coast the polls show it is not going to pass, the conservatives in the rest of the state may see things differently).

If it does it is going to open cans of worms the right never knew existed.

And if it passes, we need to be sure the right is made aware of all the worms.
