3. Yeah. He's photogenic. So what? He does not represent me or my values. Never has, never will...
He is a complete corporatist tool and mouthpiece. He does NOT speak for America!

5. I'll give you the "family values", but please explain this "character" thing
We were sold the character of the man, because the policy issues were kept so close to the vest.

The "character" issues are much in question.

9. "family values" is a republican/conservative meme
Edited on Mon Nov-07-11 03:24 PM by quinnox
And its his policies that are in question, not his character. I don't really care what Obama's character is, its his centrist and right wing appeasing policies I have problems with.

That said, yes he has a very handsome family, I don't think anyone would disagree with that.

11. You could say that about many politicians
Isn't that why they trot out their poor children and bored spouses at important events? Obama's not the only married guy with kids in politics.

I'm not hating on the guy here. Good for him for being a family man, but he shouldn't get undue praise for something lots of other regular people do.

12. At this point, he is the last Democrat who deserves those labels.
The very last.

I am mortified to have helped vote this into office.

18. In the Civil Rights era, it was state laws that upheld segregation.
Currently, it's federal law preventing the recognition of gay marriages in some states from applying in all states.

Talk about being dumber than a bag of hammers.

23. Yes, thank you, my state has an Amendment to that effect
and the laws against recognition of "incidentals to marriage" in my state are among the harshest in the country. Even if DOMA were repealed, those Amendments would stand until successfully challenged. Obama's statements to the effect of "leaving it to the States" is just wrong no matter how you slice it.

Further, the man's been deeply mealy-mouthed on the issue depend on when he's been asked. For example, in July of this year, one of his spokesmen said that

Although the President believes that this is an issue best addressed by the states, he also firmly believes that committed gay and lesbian couples should receive equal protection under the law

while, as of October he was saying that

I'm still working on it

His position that it should be "best addressed by the states" is in diametric opposition to his belief that "committed gay and lesbian couples should receive equal protection under the law". In my state, and many others, one of those two conditions must be false; in Michigan, where I live, either it is left up to the State, in which case my ability to marry someone I love is denied me, or I receive equal protection under the law, in which case that horrid Amendment to the Michigan Constitution is nullified.

This is a binary choice. There is no legitimate reason for Obama to still be "working on it" at this late date.

26. Obama and his family should be thanking LBJ every day...
...that they disagreed on States Rights.

LBJ signing the Civil Rights Act, 1964.
Dr. Martin Luther King looks on as the historic legislation guaranteeing Equal Rights & equal protections is signed.

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.

16. What makes you think Mitt Romney is any less a father to his sons or Ron Paul to his?
This is a cheap shot based on a cute photo. It has no place in a political discussion.
