The idea that Republicans are sabotaging the economy goes mainstream
"The New York Times editorial board had a piece today on the importance of unemployment benefits, and made an observation in passing that stood out for me.

“Tragically,” the editorial said, “the more entrenched the jobs shortage becomes, the more paralyzed Congress becomes, with Republicans committed to doing nothing in the hopes that the faltering economy will cost President Obama his job in 2012.”

The point was made in passing, but it’s nevertheless striking. As far as the editorial board of the nation’s most important newspaper is concerned, it’s simply accepted as fact that congressional Republicans want to hold back the economy, on purpose, to undermine the Obama presidency."

3. Perhaps TPTB are getting nervous
Afraid that things will spiral out of their control, they're exposing the repukes for attempting to kill the golden goose.

5. Standard big media operating procedure
For months, it was all about "bipartisanship" and how the Democrats had to work with Republicans. When over and over again (and over and over and fucking over) the Democrats gave away the store, only to have the Republicans come back with new and more ridiculous demands, the big media tut-tutted the Democrats for not being bipartisan enough. There was a crisis on! The Democrats had to give in to the Republicans to save the country/economy/their phony baloney jobs.

Now, when the glaringly obvious can no longer be sustained with the "let's be reasonable, do it the Republicans' way" bullshit, it's just obliquely mentioned in passing that the Republicans are "committed to doing nothing in the hopes that the faltering economy will cost President Obama his job in 2012." Ya think? Why isn't this a headline, instead of a throwaway reference in an editorial? Oh, because "everybody knows" that's what's happening; no need to put such an obvious fact out there for the public. They're not dummies.

6. Where's the video of McConnell saying that the first priority of the Republican party
is (not jobs) "making sure Obama is a one-term President"?

Definitely not in the "liberally-biased media" ...

7. Michele Bachmann has been saying this in just about every public..
appearance she makes, and in interviews on TV, too.

I think even Republicans are catching on! Especially the laid off ones, former police, fire, teachers, (a minority of them are Republicans, for sure, but still a few, getting the message).

We really have to get rid of the Republican majority in the House and Senate, as well as retain the Presidency, in 2012, or we will see America crash and burn or have a real bloody revolution before 2016. I am convinced of this. The occupy movement won't stay "peaceful" for five more years.

8. The Occupy movement has to become a force in electoral politics, sir
That is something that, sadly, the Tea Party was able to achieve from their "movement". However, the left has to learn from the example and realize that the Democratic Party is just as vulernable (or ought to be) to similar political pressure, but only if the numbers on the streets turn into numbers at the polls, particularly during the primary season. If so, then the politicians will really take notice.

9. Quintessentially, Republicans are the constitutional enemy within: my opinion means
absolutely nothing, it's what Republicans do/don't that define them as a constitutional enemy. :patriot:

10. It will be interesting to see if this is a successful strategy.
Failure to govern will quickly become the norm in DC, if it hasn't already. If this turns out to be the case, I think we should just send them all home and save their salaries for something important. If their role is to do nothing or even to act to make our situation worse, why do we need them?

11. Telling paragraph
Unfortunately, given Republicans’ demonstrated willingness to ignore human needs and economic logic, it is more likely than not that jobless benefits will be a major battle in the months ahead.

14. THE REPUBS ARE HURTING THE COUNTRY...
trea·son   /ˈtrizən/ Show Spelled Show IPA
noun
1.the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign.
2.a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state.
3.the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.

Definition #3 works for me.

We elected them to do a job.

The job is to make laws that help the country operate in a way that benefits its people.

They have betrayed our trust.

They changed (or went around) laws that protected us from going into a major depression.

They have been bought out by the wealthy and our business leaders
(they do NOT represent all of the people).

They have worked it so that the majority of the wealth resides with the people who do the least spending. By shorting the middle class they (the middle class)doesn't have the financial security to spend money in order to bring the country out of the recession at an acceptable rate.

Th wealthy needs a "healthy" middle class in order to support American businesses and by doing so, support business growth and development (i.e., jobs)
