Poll question: If we had a public referendum on austerity (the Super Committee) here, how would people vote?
The Greek PM dared to suggest his people be allowed to vote on neoliberal shock treatment, sending a shock through the markets since they knew people would not vote for dismantling and fire sale of their own country on the bankers orders. Now the vote is off.

If the public were allowed to vote on austerity (the plan for which is intentionally protected from actual voters by setting up the Super Committee and the like) how would the public vote?

1. Unfortunately, I'm hearing otherwise
sensible people thinking we should go the austerity route, because they simply don't understand what it really means.

2. Our brainwashed public would accept huge cuts in social programs...
... if they thought it was tied to the meagerest of tax increases on the wealthy.

What we'll probably get is massive cuts and higher taxes on the middle class and poor.

3. since the public is sympathetic to Occupy Wall Street, I hope you're wrong but
public opinion doesn't have much influence on anything Washington does anymore.
