House GOP Seeks to Reaffirm "In God We Trust" as National Motto Because, Eh, Why Not?
http://www.indecisionforever.com/2011/11/01/house-gop-seeks-to-reaffirm-in-god-we-trust-as-national-motto-because-eh-why-not/

November 1 at 12:30PM by Dennis DiClaudio

With so so many problems facing our foundering nation these days, it must be incredibly difficult, as a legislator, to decide where to direct our congressional resources.

Should our elected representatives focus on the crushing unemployment our economic middle and lower classes are experiencing? Should it keep its gaze fixed resolutely upon our skyrocketing national debt? What about our flagging educational system? Our addiction to foreign-bought fossil fuels? Our military presence in the Middle East? The ever-increasing disgust being expressed by the populist uprising on our city streets? Should Congress do anything about any of those things?

Or should it maybe just pass a non-binding GOP-sponsored resolution that our already-agreed-upon national motto "In God We Trust" is still super nifty and we all really like it forever and ever amen? Probably that last one is the way to go…

10. Congress always wastes time on shit like this.
And because it has Gawd in it, they're happy to waste the time and the money.

They forget that it's shit like this that makes the Baby Jeebus cry.

These religious idiots need to be told to shut up and sit down already.

16. While that is the motto on the Great Seal...
It is not our official motto. By Law "In God We Trust" is the national motto. Signed by Ike in like 1956.

I would rather prefer to see it replaced with "E Pluribus Unum."

9. All others pay cash.
And why isn't that part of the "national motto" -- after all, it's far more in keeping with American business practices. ;-)

14. Whew! Glad we took care of that
Prosperity is just around the corner, and happy days will soon be here again!

I'd just love to see every House Republican on the teevee asked about this vital piece of non-binding resolution, with a rapt audience for all the whys and wherefores of their flawless wisdom and reasoning. Added bonus will be the fast-tracking of this bill, and the reason why it had to crowd out other, lesser matters on the congressional schedule.

20. still a complete violation of the Constitution.
Article 1 of the Bill of Rights:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..."

This doesn't mean--as asshole religionists insist--that we can't favor one religion over another or sanctify a particular faith, it literally means that government will not take any stance on the subject of religion. We, as a people may NOT legally state that there is or isn't a "god".

Constitutionally, we cannot take any position on religion. We certainly cannot say that we, as a people, state that there is a god.

Regardless of prior perpetration, this is illegal. Lincoln bears some blame for this, but the guilt can be liberally spread about.

The motto is E Pluribus Unum. It is a far better message: out of many, one.

Religion doesn't play fair. It insists that it has the answers and has the right to spread these answers by virtually any means. To allow encroachments to stand only allows further abuses.

They play for keeps.

23. Our motto is E pluribus unum
And why are fundamentalists pushing the In God we trust that was pushed by the rightest Catholic Knights of Columbus. Shit I remember having to re-memorize the Pledge of Alliance in second grade because they stuck in under God.
