So we were talking about why people do not know a dang about occupy San Diego... and how the stories that strangely went out in our local balanced (Laugh tractshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Rav9ijyyZk) media... was about arrest and beatings and all that.

And a civilian in his business suit comes over. How did we know? The question.

He said, well being arrested really frightens me. There is nothing more scary than that.

So the young medic behind me smiled and this guy looked at me. "There is nothing more scary right?"

"Getting shot at is actually up there. I'd say scarier." I said matter of factly, with vets nodding.

We had a longish talk and I found this is a poli sci prof trying to find out what this is all about. Yes we went into academese of social revolutions and what drives folks to the streets... and he finally said... "You know I think I get it. Some of these kids, (looking at the vets) have truly been where they can lose all, And some of these kids are losing all. They don't care."

I nodded. "You got it. It does come to that, and why this is not political."

He also figured out the suppression, the kids already did by the way... if all you have are stories of arrests and beatings, and druggies and crazee people and homeless, and how dirty it is... well "normal people" will stay away, out of fear.

Personally, been under fire... so there. But this youngish prof, who's mostly read about these things, now trying to figure it out... was given the answer that is in oodles and oodles of academic papers, in about half an hour, when people have little to lose...

Oh and he is thinking of inviting some of these fine folks to adress his students at the local college... that should be interesting.
