Doomsday Group: OK, we give up

http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/10/28/doomsday-ministry-scrubs-end-of-world-predictions-from-website

(CNN) - The Christian radio broadcasting network that touted Harold Camping's failed doomsday predictions may be getting out of the prophecy business, adopting what appears to be a vaguer vision of the end times.

"We are to live so that we are ready for the return of Christ, and even pray for it," according to a Family Radio statement obtained by The Christian Post. "But we also rejoice in every new day, that we've been given another day to occupy and serve our Lord."

When the world didn't end last week, Camping followers who gathered for a regular Sunday fellowship meeting questioned if they had been left behind, according to Brandon Tauszik, a documentarian who began attending the meetings this year.

According to Fred Store, a longtime Family Radio listener, the general belief is "Judgment Day did in fact occur on May 21."

5. No it doesn't
But it serves your prejudice to think so, and this kind of bigotry carries the DU seal of approval, so have at it.

17. is it bigotry to observe & come to a rational conclusion?
Nope.
How many DUers actively propose that we live on a flat earth, with some prayer hungry critter in the sky, waiting for the right combo of prayers and irrational faith before deciding to ignore the prayer's request?
How many DUers actively support idiotic ideas like creationism, a 7000 year old universe, some underground satan critter, faith based healing, and the inerrancy of a two part fairy tale that was stolen, borrowed, and mistranslated over many generations?

19. So is it a rational conclusion that black people are idiots?
I mean 75.6% of African Americans claim to be Christians.

A guide to African-Americans and religion

• Survey Documentation and Analysis (using data from the General Social Surveys from 1972-2004) shows that:
• 75.7 percent of blacks are Protestant;

I'm just using the same logic as you.

20. Every race suffers from equal numbers of village idiots
And these days, it is clear that because of peer pressure, many people self report as being religious (christian) instead of telling the truth. The risk of ostracizing is too high for them to tell the truth. If the identity is kept secret, the percentage of self reporting christians drops significantly, thank god.

18. There are good Christians and bad Christians, but DU tends to think all Christians are bad
There are many religious people that do very good things. When there is a disaster, such as Hurricane Katrina or the Joplin tornado, there are many Christian groups who are some of the first people there to help. They aren't trying to spread the word of their religion, they are just trying to help.

Reverend Mozel Sanders did more for the homeless in Indianapolis than anyone. His legacy still lives today.

I understand that there are many bigots and idiots who are Christians. However, there are also many good people. You don't hear about the good things they do, but you always hear about a bigot using religion to hate.

This is exactly how racists justify their beliefs. They don't see black people doing good things. They tend to not deal with them personally, so all they see of black people is what is on television. So they think all black people are either rappers, professional athletes, or criminals. I mean, most of the stories about black people on the news are about this (ignoring that you see just as much crime from whites).

Don't extrapolate the actions of a few onto an entire group. You may be amazed that there are millions of Christian Democrats in the United States.

The Pew Center for People and the Press, in a study released November 5, 2003, sums up the political affiliations of Americans by religion as follows:
R D
Protestants 33 32
White Evangelicals 44 23
White Mainline 35 26
Black 5 68
White Catholics 30 30
Regular Attendance 33 29
Rarely Attend 25 31
Jewish 17 54
No Religion 14 28

Total 29 30

7. You mean they threatened to shut down the world with their Rapture
And now when they failed they're the object of derision and being made fun of?

Hey Harold, don't promise what you don't have any chance of delivering, you look a fool.

10. they learned an embarassing lesson in religious prognostication....
....but there will always be another fool that comes along and has yet to learn their lessons, and will announce their own deadlines.

My mom told me that it's often a fool that learns lessons the hard way. It's the brilliant folk that will learn a lesson from other's mistakes.

likely keep him away.

13. I think I can give them a simple answer they can accept...
...paperwork.

I work in the Government and NO project comes in on schedule. The permitting agencies always have 30 days to review proposals and always take longer.

If God is going to end the world, you can imagine how much red tape there must be: environmental impact studies, public hearing requirements, translating everying into multiple languages...They're probably 2-3 months behind schedule. Wait till Christimas comes around.

and it doesn't so much kill brain cells as makes them inoperable.
