OK, I'm a lifelong Southerner but...
This image has had me in tears for fifteen minutes, I can finally see to type again, my sides hurt and I'm gasping for breath.

I can *totally* see some parent or grandparent wearing that T shirt to one of my grandkids' school functions.

in the same unfathomable way that Pabst Blue Ribbon has become a hipster beverage of choice

To hipster irony and then back to dead serious before I'm done.

33. "Rings," actually
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

18. Eh, I fit the stereotype easily..
I'm on the cusp between middle aged and elderly, I'm fish belly white where I've never tanned (much) and my home quite literally has wheels on it.

Poking a little gentle fun at your own people's foibles is an old custom.

20. I've gotten in trouble for that before, Skip, but when I lived in NC nobody appreciated
the cliches more than the people who were REALLY Southern! And that was a small town!

It's the cliche we're joking about, not the people themselves. I don't take offense when I hear the Seattle Birkenstock-wearing tree hugging latte-swillers. Nor do I take offense when Irish Catholic drinking jokes abound. They become cliches for a reason.

Just my opinion, natch, but I really don't think anyone is being cruel by these statements.

The possibilities with airbrush t-shirts are endless. People could get gun-toting Sarahs, orange Boehners, Confederate flag carrying Haley Barbours..... I'm serious about this -- we could have a lot of fun lampooning the teabaggers and it would be interesting to see how the librul media covers it.

A T-shirt I wouldn't be caught dead wearing, but that's part of living in a democracy. As for school functions, plenty of people around here were Obama T-shirts to school functions in 2008 and I found them just as objectionable. Churches and schools, they both should leave politics at the door.
