Obama Calls On 8,000 Health Clinic Jobs To Hire Iraq And Afghanistan Veterans
To help reduce the 11.7 veteran unemployment rate, the White House aims to get about 8,000 servicemen and servicewomen hired in the health sector over the next three years, President Barack Obama announced Tuesday.

Obama called on each of the nation's estimated 8,000 health clinics to hire at least one returning veteran from Afghanistan and Iraq, The Washington Post reported.

The president also aims to help military medics leverage their combat experience, by becoming physician assistants when they return. To facilitate the training, the administration said it will give priority grants to colleges and universities that offer such programs, according to Bloomberg.

These poor men and women have been fighting for YEARS and now the President has the gall to try and make them work more!!!!!

I certainly have not heard anyone on the left express outrage about this. I think virtually everyone on the left would support this, but most of us would also argue that it does not go nearly far enough. 8,000 jobs is a miniscule number in a nation of 300 million people, especially when we are talking a three year period.

And have GI's work to build it, and run it when it opens. One week of occupying Iraq should cover the cost of building a few of them, and the labor costs. Make it a free hospital for vets, and let the public use it along with a public option. We need state of the art facilities and this would bring a lot of jobs.
