Why they hate her.
Excerpts from the http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/17/opinion/elizabeth-warrens-appeal.html">NYT

While most other Democrats are afraid to talk about the need for higher taxes and are running away from the problem, Elizabeth Warren, the leading Democratic candidate for a Senate seat in Massachusetts, has engaged the fight and is beginning to rally supporters.

-snip-

Ms. Warren talks about the nation’s growing income inequality in a way that channels the force of the Occupy Wall Street movement but makes it palatable and understandable to a far wider swath of voters.

-snip-

It is an informed and measured populism...

-snip-

She is both knowledgeable and accessible when she explains the destructive credit-swap and subprime mortgage games that created the financial crisis....

Her larger appeal, though, comes from her ability to shred Republican arguments that rebalancing the tax burden constitutes class warfare. ....

-snip-

Democrats should not be cowed by conservative taunts that the speech advocated “collectivism,” and use this argument to push back against the Republicans’ refusal to raise the taxes of people who make more than a million dollars a year

Because I think she is triple attractive! She is cute, smart & most of all she cares about people! You can't get any more attractive than that. IMHO.

Was it comments on a Right Wing website, news article or here on DU?

17. The final sentence in the last paragraph should be required reading.

Democrats should not be cowed by conservative taunts that the speech advocated “collectivism,” and use this argument to push back against the Republicans’ refusal to raise the taxes of people who make more than a million dollars a year — sometimes far more. Senate Democratic leaders say they plan to employ poll-tested phrases like “Tea Party economics” and “Tea Party gridlock” in their campaign for a jobs bill and beyond. They would be better off listening to Elizabeth Warren.

Kicked and recommended.

Thanks for the thread, mmonk.

20. Elizabeth Warren is like Ned Lamont
In that the DLC would rather be tepid and agree with the other party for the money, while those two were quite happy to point out what was wrong and what we needed to do about it.

Really, the reason she's hated is that she tells the truth, rather than saying that the Banks and the rich need more bribes in order to do their jobs.

Edited on Tue Oct-25-11 07:28 PM by CTyankee
I'm afraid he folded in the stretch. Not that he didn't have the big money guys against him, he did. But I have been put off by his talking about his unsuccessful run for governor in the dem primary in 2010, when he said he didn't really want to be a senator anyway, back in the 2006 campaign when I volunteered for him. I was really annoyed.

He was acting like a dilettante who wanted to "try his hand" at politics, knowing he could fall back on his family wealth and his business in Greenwich if it didn't turn out well.

I know that sounds harsh, but in politics, things get real very fast. He is a nice guy in many ways but he didn't really WANT the jobs he applied for...

40. The Democratic Party of Connecticut threw Lieberman out.
I'm not saying Lamont was irrelevant to the effort because clearly he was very relevant. It was something that had to be done. I'm proud of my state party and I'm proud of my friends who were part of that effort.

I guess my sore point, as I said, was reading in the NYT the day before Lamont got beaten by Malloy in the Dem primary for governor, that he wouldn't have wanted to be a senator anyway and that the governorship suited him far better. As one of his lowly volunteers in his 06 Senate race against Lieberman, I did not appreciate that remark. Based on my experience in 06 making calls for Lamont, I found Dems who had doubts about Lamont's ability to be a good Senator and to be dedicated to the job. Of course, part of this was resentment against a rich Greenwich guy pouring lots of his money into his Senate campaign. And, of course, he wasn't that well known. To be fair, tho, Lamont started his campaign reluctantly, because he could not dissuade Lieberman from his views and he couldn't find anyone else to run the race against Lieberman. I give Ned some credit for doing that...

52. Thank you, that is one of those important ideas that is...
not discussed anymore and it sure isn't emphasized. For the past 30 years while the repugnant party has been preaching the gospel of greed and selfishness, the dems have been sitting on the sidelines looking dumb or trying to come up with the words for a kinder, gentler gospel of greed and selfishness. No one, until Elizabeth Warren, has been talking about how our taxes pay for civilization.

I remember when I was young and we all knew that our community was the responsibility of all who were part of it. That was something that we heard regularly and we were encouraged to volunteer for all sorts of projects that would make the community better. Our state was part of the community and our country was also part of the community in which we lived. The whole idea of civilization is that we work together to build a better life for all. That might be called collectivism, if so, I have no problem with that.

48. Love this: "It is an informed and measured populism..."
It is an informed and measured populism, and it helps explain why she immediately became the leading Democratic contender in the race to challenge Senator Scott Brown, the Republican who is up for re-election next year.

Ms. Warren, a law professor at Harvard, helped to design the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Because of her fierce advocacy on behalf of consumers, Senate Republicans and the financial industry made clear they would never allow her to run it.

Her larger appeal, though, comes from her ability to shred Republican arguments that rebalancing the tax burden constitutes class warfare. In a living-room speech that went viral on YouTube last month, she pointed out that people in this country don’t get rich entirely by themselves — everyone benefits from roads, public safety agencies and an education system paid for by taxes. And those who have benefited the most, she says, need to give back more.

“You built a factory and it turned into something terrific or a great idea — God bless!” she said. “Keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.”

66. Individual commitments to the well-being of an entire group, of which one is a member, can occur in
any form/degree which the individual(s):group agree upon.

The U.S. is a collective now, a collective that has evolved into that with which the individual(s) involved did not, or no longer, consent.

67. P.S. If any one individual's dissent matters, all individuals' dissents matter & are ergo intrinsic
traits which require resolution in order for the group/collective to be a group/collective, no matter what name it goes under, e.g. nation, state, city, corporation, enterprise, or whatever. If dissent is not addressed and choices made, the group is not a group, it is the opposite of a group, i.e. an aggregate of individuals competing against any form of collectivity, again no matter what form that collectivity takes. Even corporations that do not address and make choices about individual dissent are anti-collective/corporation.

63. Elizabeth Warren
Come on people. What is it with the personal comments and
attacks. Whenever Bolton, the former UN Rep. comes up, do we
comment on his countenance. Grow up.

64. I'd like her more too if she wasn't open to war with Iran and a huge fan of the WOD.

69. Why they hate her
Elizabeth Warren gives absolutely straight forward answers to the questions she is asked. I am from MA and I know people in the party here are cringing at times because they wish she would soften her answers in order to garner more votes. But this is one of the reasons I love Elizabeth Warren. As liberal as MA is thought to be, we have NEVER sent a female senator to Washington. MA has only sent four female congresswomen. This is not an easy state to get to Washington if you are a woman. Despite all the hype surrounding Elizabeth, she absolutely knows this. It would have been very easy for her to choose to return to Harvard Law than engage in MA politics, which is a blood sport. That is another reason I love Elizabeth Warren. I want to be proud of both my senators. I would be very proud to call Elizabeth Warren Senator...my Senator.
