MSNBC line up changes announced...
Ed Shultz to 8 PM
Lawrence O'Donnell's Last Word back to 10 pm

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/19/msnbc-lineup-changes-ed-show-last-word_n_1020130.html
--snip--
Rachel Maddow, the network's highest-rated host, will stay where she is at 9 PM.

--snip--
The move represents a definite promotion for Schultz, who will now go head-to-head with Bill O'Reilly and Anderson Cooper in the marquee cable news hour. It is the second time that Schultz has moved up the totem pole on MSNBC's lineup. He originally held the 6 PM hour currently hosted by Al Sharpton.

O'Donnell has recently had to endure a bout of unfavorable news coverage about his ratings. His return to 10 PM also means that he loses a full day of programming, since MSNBC does not air news programming at 10 on Fridays.

15. Yeah I watch Keith
and sometimes Rachel and Ed. Rachel is great - Ed is good - Lawrence is so/so. But Keith is still the best with Rachel a close second IMO. I liked Ed at 10 cause he wasn't up against Keith. oh well.

2. They have to do something
I go to this site weekly hoping to find MSNBC at the top of the ratings war, and am constantly disappointed.

I'll never understand why MSNBC doesn't attract more viewers, but at least they beat CNN. Incredibly, ratings often go up after Rachel's Friday show when "Lockup" begins.(!?)

I guess fear and loathing sells soap better than facts:

3. That's why they keep Lockup. If that helps them revenue-wise
to keep the good guys on during the day, then it's a fair trade, in my mind.

6. Agree -- but the ratings go UP which allows them to charge
more for advertising time. The revenue will help support the good part of MSNBC. It's a business.

9. That's not the point. The point is it brings in more viewers
which equals higher ratings which equals higher advertising dollars which help support the lesser-viewed shows.

If they pull Lockup, etc and run the political shows all weekend and their ratings plummet, we'd lose it all.

It's easy as pie for me to turn the channel on Friday nights, and I'm thankful MSNBC has a show that generates higher revenue.

5. I'm sorry to hear about Lawrence O'D -- I think he's great.
But whatever works in order to give MSNBC a fighting chance...

7. It didn't make sense from the beginning. LO has a show called the
last word.. putting that before Rachel is stupid. Its also a great wind down with little shouting for the end of the evening. Ed is fiery and should have been at 8pm all along. They should have listened to me in the beginning, and they wouldn't look like idiots now. LOL

10. Maddow made light of that once.
She pointed out how O'Donnell obviously isn't the "last word" because Schultz has the following hour. I forget how it tied in with the theme she was working on, I think it might have pertained to how Republicans name their bills.

11. I don't get how Ed show works well as a lead in the Rachel
Rachel show has substance. O'Donnell show seemed to work well with her show and both had actual news in it. Schultz show is more infotainment and bluster and I usually skip it. Perhaps they should have fought a little harder to keep KO. If a real news story happens in the day I'm not really tuning into Schultz and Sharpton for reporting on it, sounds like the real winner will be Cooper.

20. He can be found in current and then u can switch over to Rachel.
Personally, I'm taking a bit if a break. I watch a few clips that get posted, or occasionally catch a show here and there. With the Republican gas bags being in the primary running, there is normally a story or two about them every evening; especially if they just had another debate. To me they are so out of touch and ridiculous, that I really can't stand listening to anything about them. While I don't love what Obama's administration has been like for the past 3 years, I'll take that over crazy any day. Had OWS been around in 2009, we would have a much different looking country today. Thankfully, there is a rise up and a righteous anger that has finally connected, and it ain't a bunch of Tea Bagger nut jobs that scare more people than help.

I'm sure once the primary candidate has been selected on the Republican side and its closer to elections again, I will pay more attention. But most of the topics covered are already covered here. There are a few items that are "new" that Rachel and her team have dug up over the last couple of years that have been really outstanding.. like the connection of The Family and the church at C-Street. The connections. She did an outstanding job of pulling the debate over DADT into the forefront and had a gay soldier out himself on TV. That began the push and prodding of the White House to act. I really don't think they wanted to act this term. However, Lt Choi, and other noble, brave, soldiers brought the light of the situation into perspective, and it wasn't some crazy, scary issue at the end of the day. And I loved her little "google Santorum" that she repeated on Letterman and it kinda went viral. That in itself was hilarious. She's also done several outstanding interviews with the President and Nancy Pelosi. She asked the tough questions that no one dares to ask these "leaders". She is really quite outstanding.

Now if they'd just substitute Thom Hartmann for the 7:00 rerun of Hardball I'd be ecstatic.

19. You know what's really sad?
It's that he's actually going up against "Dancing With The Stars" and "America's Got Talent" and losing. People who tune into O'Reilly are generally too old to find interest in reality shows.
