O’Donnell blasts hypocrisy of marijuana prohibition
My hats off to Lawrence O’Donnell..For the truth and putting right out their...
He says it loud and very clear.... The Facts

Read watch and listen:

MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell slammed politicians Tuesday night for ignoring reality and continuing to “get high” on alcohol while Americans were being sent to jail for smoking marijuana.

Gallup has found that Americans favor marijuana legalization now more than ever. A record-high 50 percent of Americans say the use of marijuana should be made legal, up 4 percent from last year and 14 percent from 2006.

Yet the drug is still a Schedule I substance under the federal Controlled Substances Act, a classification reserved for addictive drugs like heroin that have no accepted medical value.

“Now we know that no one in the Obama administration is stupid enough to actually think that ” Donnell said on the “Rewrite” segment of his show. “But we also know that politicians have no intention of facing reality any time soon when it comes to marijuana.”

2. That was a nice finish by O'Donnell.

“Politicians will continue to allow young lives to be ruined for mere possession of marijuana. Politicians will continue to allow people to be arrested, allow people to go to jail, allow people to get criminal records, get kicked out of school, get fired, be turned down for jobs, because they try or use marijuana. Something more than one President of the United States has done.”

“Meanwhile, America is going to continue getting high as it always has,” he continued. “Legally, on booze, and illegally on a lot of things, including marijuana, which is a much, much healthier choice than whiskey.”

“Such hypocrisy carries an even stronger stench than the alcohol-drenched breath of those politicians and judges and prosecutors and DEA officials. I really don’t know how they can sleep at night.”

Thanks for the thread, DreamSmoker.

5. Politicians love to be stupid

it pays very well, especially with all those donations from Alcohol and Pharma Lobbyists and the For-profit prison industry.

They're too drunk, fat and happy wallowing in all the free cash to care about fair laws. Those lobbyists write our laws, not the people we elect to office.

A pox on all of them, every one and kudos to LO

6. Smart politics, too.
Over the years, seems like most pot smokers I've known (self included) have been naturally progressive and liberal...the sort of person who tends to vote Democrat. So Democrats should first stop supporting an agenda that is designed to put their voters in jail. Politics 101.

Decriminalizing pot will free up lots of discretionary income to be used more productively in the above ground economy. And reduce taxpayer costs to run a bankrupting "War on Drugs" that sucks resources to conservative causes - like the attempt want to privitize our corrections industry into a for-profit boondoggle. An epiphany on this subject by the Democratic Party leadership could be a permanent game changer for a more aggressive progressive political agenda....unless, of course, they prefer to play the role of Alan Colmes to the Republican Sean Hannity.

The country is way ahead of either Party on this issue...if the Democrats are willing to run on decriminalizing, the economic/social benefits would be huge. It will probably cut a big funding source for Republican/pro-illegal forces, too.
