Drove past Mitt's La Jolla house today.
It's a freaking estate! Knew this already but it really stands out compared to the neighborhing houses. We were in La Jolla to look at the ocean and sea lions on the rocks at La Jolla Cove. It turned out to be a cloudy, overcast day so I didn't bring my camera. Not much to take photos of from the street anyway. Drove down Dunemere St, which is a very old-looking narrow concrete street. The houses are packed together closely, and most are not mansions; the La Jolla zip code and proximity to the ocean mean they all have multi-million dollar price tags, if and when they ever come up for sale. What people you do see around are ordinary-looking suburban types, puttering around in their garages or whatever. You can see part of Mitt's house through the gate, but mostly you see trees. It's way bigger than the houses around it, from what I could tell. The property is large, but if they build a much bigger house it's going to eat up a lot of that land and I bet they will have to remove a lot of trees. I'm sure the neighbors aren't too happy about that. Well, just thought I'd report here in case anyone has any lingering interest...

2. I'll bet he only pays 1% property tax on it.
I hate California's property tax laws. Out of state billionaires can buy vacation property and second homes here and only pay 1% annual property taxes. If you taxed out of state billionaires on the vacation and second house properties they own in CA, even only 5%, bet we could solve a lot of our budget problems.

3. MEDIAN list price for homes in La Jolla is $1.3M
So Mitt's Tabernacle (if you'll pardon the expression) is surely well above that mark.

And while he's "worrying about the 99 percent," he's also been worrying about how to fill up 11,000 square feet of house. Well, I guess if you're obscenely rich and unemployed, you have time to think about such things.

On the plus side, Mitt's a Job Creator since he'll be employing more servants.

4. Mitt Romney--Fortunate Son
Believe it or not, he's actually used this song to play him onstage:

Fortunate Son

Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief"
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no

Yeah!
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh
But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no

Some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer More! more! more! yoh

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no military son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, one

It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no no no
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate son, no no no
