"The greatest thing about the Occupy movement is that ordinary people are becoming extraordinary."
GX Jupitter-Larsen on Facebook, commenting on a photo from #OccupyLosAngeles of a uniformed veteran with a sign saying "I did what's right. Why won't you?"

5. so true
I was watching the folks on the OWS livestream and they are actually becoming familiar to me. They have been there for weeks now and are not stopping. It's amazing.

6. A bit degrading isn't it?
It's like a line out of a celebrity magazine touting celebs as special, insinuating "ordinary" people are not.

7. I don't think so.
Imagine the military and units and units of soldiers and one person steps out and performs a heroic act of bravery. They step from the rank and file in a spectacular way, just like the protesters who are willing to go to jail to make their . . . our . . . point.

9. Convenient framing
Let's first imagine the decision those soldiers made to join the military.

10. Forget the military. Ordinary people becoming extraordinary every day.
They rush into a burning house to save someone or hand a homeless person a twenty dollar bill or donate a kidney to save another life or . . . fill in the blank. I don't understand how you see it as demeaning.

11. I think what has happened is that we are finally getting to see
all those beautiful, generous, compassionate, awesome, extraordinary people who were pushed to the side and now have a voice. I am so impressed by so many of the people I have seen since this began. How intelligent they are, how they 'get it' even those who themselves are not affected by what is going on. As one woman in Ventura said 'I don't like to see so many people losing their homes' even though she is not affected, she is caring enough to worry about others and to go out and stand with them to try make things better for everyone. She is a grandma also and could just look the other way, but people are not doing that anymore.

The American people are wonderful, but we were not seeing them, and all the world was seeing was those who represent us, cruel, warmongering, greedy, non-caring, who refer to the deaths of innocent civilians as 'collateral damage'. That was NOT the American people as a whole, and I agree with you, the people are extraordinary, they just needed to be heard.

15. The world knew that all these wonderful people were there. It's just....
a question of 'when' will they all finally 'stand up together' to stop the minority of stupid sociopathic bullies for greed that were always rushing out to the front from forever causing more and more damages to their collective image.
