Anything at all?
The dapper self-promoter Al Sharpton is doing his radio show from the main New York Wall Street protest site at Zuccotti Park today. But, I'm not so sure he's all that supportive and helpful .... it might just be his old usual opportunistic self.
Do leading Democratic Party officeholders know how to build a genuine independent mass movement, have they any practical experience in such matters, do they even want to see such a mass movement develop that isn't a mere election campaign political adjunct of the Democratic Party?
Perhaps we will now see some politicians say nice words about the protests and perhaps even be willing to speak at these demonstrations! The question is, is that all they are willing do in the hopes of winning some votes?
These "leaders" claim to represent millions of people.
Well, if they are truly leaders, where are their followers and troops and why have they so far failed to bring them out into the streets?
Maybe they just are uncomfortable with mass movements that they don't control and don't do that sort of thing.
So shall they continue to sit on the sidelines while sometimes wishing protestors well?
We might see a handful of Senators or members of the House do something meaningful to promote these protests before too long.
A little more than lip service.
Or maybe not.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has posted a petition on their website declaring: "Sign our petition right now and help us reach 100,000 strong standing with Occupy Wall Street protestors across the country!"
Oh. So they are urging people to participate in and help build the OWS protests? Well, not exactly.
They failed to list the locations of the local OWS demonstrations or at least post a link to any website that contains that information and they forgot to urge people to participate in the local protests! Just an oversight, I'm sure.
But, sign their petition and send them your e-mail address.
The DCCC petition will be delivered to John Boehner and Eric Cantor.
That'll have a dramatic impact!
What a waste of time. I didn't even bother to sign the petition. I went down to my local OWS encampment and made a financial donation instead.
