There is a single answer to the many issues being protested by the OWS people
That single answer would be public campaign financing.

Get people elected based on ideas and not advertizing. Our elected officials ought not be bought like soap powder. Big money has NO PLACE in buying officials in a democracy.

This could really be a bipartisan issue.

3. Too simplistic. Though, corruption is the overriding problem in all our systems
from corps to gov, insurance to medicare/medicaid, judicial, penal, financial, and as you say elections & politicians....everything that's wrong is due to elements of corruption and fraud.

4. Consider:
We start to elect people on the basis of their ideas, not their capacity to advertise.

We do that for a generation.

The impacted turds that occupy the congressional office buildings will all be gone, replaced with people who represent those that sent them.

It actually *is* a simple idea. People who represent us. What a concept.

6. Republicans/conservatives don't want public campaign financing.
That's the primary surface reason why we don't have it.
